Can it be controlled from the Aruba Instant On app?
No. Despite the range name, the 1430 is an unmanaged switch: no management interface, no account to create, and it is not managed by the Instant On console. You plug it in and it works, with no settings to adjust — and none possible.
Does this model power cameras or Wi-Fi access points over PoE?
No, the 1430 24G has no PoE: every connected device needs its own power supply, and therefore a mains outlet nearby. In the 1430 series, only the 8-port (64 W) and 16-port (124 W) models deliver Class 4 PoE, up to 30 W per port.
Are there SFP fibre ports to link two buildings?
No, all 24 ports are copper RJ45 10/100/1000, with automatic speed negotiation. In the series, it is the 26-port model (R8R50A) that includes 2 SFP 1 Gbps ports, intended for long-distance fibre links via transceivers.
Does this switch need an external power adapter?
No, this model has an internal power supply: a simple mains cable is enough, at 100-127 V or 200-240 V, 50/60 Hz. The 5- and 8-port models in the series, on the other hand, use an external adapter that has to be tucked away behind the furniture.
How much power does it draw if left on permanently?
Very little: 11.7 W maximum and 3.2 W at idle. It complies with Energy Efficient Ethernet (802.3az), which reduces power during periods of low activity. On equipment running 24/7, the difference from a more power-hungry switch shows on the annual electricity bill.
Is it noisy in an office or meeting room?
No, it is completely fanless: no mechanical noise, which means it can sit in the open in a meeting room or open-plan office. It is designed to operate from 0 to 40 °C, at 15 to 95% non-condensing humidity, and up to 3,000 m altitude.
Can it be mounted in a 19-inch rack?
Yes: the 19-inch rack-mount kit is included and the chassis is 44 mm high, i.e. 1U, 340 mm wide and 225 mm deep, weighing 1.91 kg. Horizontal placement on furniture and wall mounting are also supported.
Is it suitable for a home installation?
It is certified Class A (EN 55032 / CISPR 32 and FCC Part 15), the category for equipment intended for business environments. In the 1430 series, only the 5- and 8-port models are certified Class B, the class that explicitly targets home office networks.
Do you need crossover network cables to daisy-chain two switches?
No. All 10/100/1000 ports support auto MDI/MDI-X: the switch detects on its own whether it is dealing with a straight-through or crossover cable and adapts the pinout. The ports accept half or full duplex at 10/100 Mbps, and full duplex only at 1 Gbps.
Does it prioritise voice and video conferencing without configuration?
Yes, automatically. QoS classifies delay-sensitive packets (VoIP, video) according to DSCP or IEEE 802.1p markings, and flow control prevents packet loss on a congested port. End-to-end priority applies to wired voice as well as to Instant On Wi-Fi.
Does it pass through the 802.1x and Spanning Tree traffic of my existing network?
Yes. 802.1x EAPoL frames pass through the switch, allowing workstations to authenticate with a device located upstream, and Spanning Tree BPDU frames are relayed so that loop prevention keeps working across the entire topology.
Can it handle heavy transfers to a NAS?
Its switching capacity reaches 48 Gbps at 35.71 Mpps, i.e. non-blocking across all 24 ports, with latency below 1.80 µs at Gigabit. It supports jumbo frames up to 9,216 bytes, valuable for large files and overnight backups.
How many devices can it handle, and is it built to last?
Its MAC address table holds 8,192 entries, far beyond what an SME connects to 24 ports. The stated MTBF is 199.5 years and compliance covers the EN/IEC 62368-1, UL 62368-1 and EN/IEC 60950-1 safety standards.
Is the Aruba 1430 24G switch new, and how long is the warranty?
