Does the EAP115 also broadcast on the 5 GHz band?
No, it is a single-band access point: it only transmits on the 2.4 GHz band, in Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n), at up to 300 Mbps. It is a budget choice suited to web browsing, email and point-of-sale terminals, not to transferring large files.
Is the power adapter supplied with the EAP115?
Yes, the box contains the access point, a power adapter, the mounting kits and the installation guide. Mind the voltage if you ever need to replace it: it is a 9 V / 0.6 A unit, not the usual 12 V.
How much power does the EAP115 draw on a PoE switch?
Only 2.8 W: it is one of the most power-efficient access points in the catalogue, far below the 15.4 W that an 802.3af port can supply. Around ten EAP115 units therefore fit easily within the PoE budget of a small switch.
What area can one EAP115 cover?
About 60 m² per access point, with two 4 dBi internal omnidirectional antennas. For a larger floor, several access points work together under the same Omada controller, with load balancing between them.
How many devices can the EAP115 handle at the same time?
More than 100 concurrent clients. The number of users per access point can be capped, and the load balancing feature disconnects devices with too weak a signal so that they do not penalise the others.
Is the EAP115's network port Gigabit?
No, it is a 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet port. As the radio tops out at a theoretical 300 Mbps in Wi-Fi 4, the difference remains limited in real-world use, but it is worth knowing if your wired network is entirely Gigabit.
How can you identify guests connecting to the Wi-Fi?
With the captive portal: it requires an action before access is granted — accepting the terms, entering a username and password, a voucher, SMS or Facebook account. Verification can go through an external server or a database maintained by the administrator.
How many Wi-Fi networks can you create on an EAP115?
Up to 8 SSIDs, with one VLAN per SSID, rate limiting and access control. The visitors' network is thus kept separate from the company network, and clients can be isolated from one another.
What level of security does the EAP115 offer for a business network?
WPA2-PSK and above all WPA2-Enterprise with 802.1X: each user then authenticates with their own credentials against a server, with no shared key. MAC address filtering and rogue access point detection complete the set.
Can you schedule the EAP115's Wi-Fi to switch off at night?
Yes, time schedules switch the Wi-Fi on or off, and an automatic reboot can be scheduled during off-peak hours. Handy in a school or a shop that is closed at night, both for power consumption and to limit connections outside opening hours.
How do you manage a fleet of EAP115 units without additional hardware?
With the free Omada software controller, installed on an ordinary computer: it manages and maps hundreds of access points from a single interface. The OC200 and OC300 hardware controllers and cloud access are the other options, with email alerts.
Where can the EAP115 be installed, and how much space does it take up?
Indoors, on the ceiling or wall with the supplied kits, between 0 and 40 °C and 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity. Its enclosure measures 189 × 172 × 29.5 mm: mounted on a suspended ceiling tile, it is barely noticeable.
