Frequently asked questions about this product

Does the GWN7701 need to be configured?
No: it is an unmanaged switch, with no interface or app. It starts switching as soon as it is powered on, with auto-negotiation detecting the speed of each device on its own and auto MDI/MDIX correcting the pinout, whether the cable is straight-through or crossover.
How much space does this switch take up, and how much does it consume?
The case measures 164 × 80 × 30 mm and weighs 170 grams; it sits on a desk or mounts on the wall. Consumption does not exceed 2.7 W at 220 V, thanks to green technology that adapts power to the state of the links.
Is video traffic handled properly on this small switch?
Yes: IGMP snooping sends multicast streams only to the ports that request them, instead of flooding all eight ports. IEEE 802.3x flow control also limits packet loss when a port is saturated.
What performance can be expected from this 8-port model?
16 Gbps switching capacity and an 8,000-entry MAC address table, with automatic learning and ageing. All eight Gigabit ports can therefore work at the same time without getting in each other's way, which is enough for an office or a home.
Is this switch noisy?
Not at all: cooling is passive, with no fan, as on the whole GWN7700 series. Nothing to clean, no moving parts to replace, and it can be installed in a living room or a meeting room.
Is the switch new, and where can I view its datasheet?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The manufacturer's document compares the GWN7701 with the other models in the series, with their dimensions, power consumption and features: datasheet (PDF).
