How long do the JBL Tune 130 NC last with noise cancellation on?
8 h from the earbuds alone, with noise cancellation on, and 32 h in total with the case. With it off, you get 10 h and 40 h. The advertised 40 h therefore assumes ANC is off: 8 h is the figure to remember.
What if the battery runs out just before you leave?
10 minutes of charging gives you 2 h of playback. That is the time it takes to have a coffee: enough to cover a last-minute trip without waiting for a full charge.
Can you hear what is around you without taking the earbuds out?
Yes, with two modes: Ambient Aware lets outside sound back in so you stay aware of your surroundings, and TalkThru lets you exchange a few words without removing anything from your ears.
Can you wear them for training or in the rain?
Yes: they are rated IPX4, protection against water splashes from any direction, sweat included. The X simply indicates that dust resistance has not been tested.
How are calls handled?
By four microphones that isolate your voice, including outdoors. That number is what makes the difference: a single mic gets drowned out as soon as you phone from a busy street or an open-plan office.
How good are the 10 mm drivers?
10 mm is a comfortable diameter for this format: a larger diaphragm moves more air, hence the pronounced bass of the JBL Pure Bass signature. Three ear tip sizes are supplied to adjust the isolation, and therefore how much bass you actually hear.
Are they light enough to wear for long periods?
5.7 g per earbud, in an in-ear design. Three ear tip sizes let you fine-tune the fit, which determines comfort after an hour as much as how effective the noise cancellation is.
Can you customise the sound?
Yes, in the JBL Headphones app, which lets you adjust the sound and set how the touch controls behave. The earbuds work without it: the app is for customising, not for getting them going.
Are these JBL earbuds new and under warranty?
Yes, new and genuine, with the invoice serving as the warranty document for 1 year. Full specifications are given in the manufacturer's datasheet.
