Frequently asked questions about this product
Does the GWN7665 really broadcast on all three bands at the same time?
Yes, it is tri-band with one radio per band: 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, 2,403 Mbps on 5 GHz and 2,403 Mbps on 6 GHz, in 2×2:2 MU-MIMO on each. Seven internal antennas handle this, two of them dedicated to the 6 GHz band.
What does the GWN7665's 6 GHz band bring?
A spectrum from 5,945 to 7,125 MHz, still little used by neighbouring networks, with channels of up to 160 MHz. Only Wi-Fi 6E-compatible devices can access it, which ensures an uncluttered environment for demanding uses.
What power supply does the GWN7665 need?
A PoE+ 802.3at port: its power draw reaches 22.55 W, well above the 15.4 W of an 802.3af port. Also check the switch's total PoE budget before connecting several of them.
Why does the GWN7665 have a 2.5 Gbps port?
Because its three radios add up to more than 5 Gbps: a Gigabit port would become the bottleneck. It therefore has a 2.5 Gbps port and a second Gigabit port, the latter able to serve a nearby wired device.
How many devices does the GWN7665 serve at the same time?
384 simultaneous Wi-Fi clients, served by uplink and downlink OFDMA. That is the capacity required for a hotel lobby, a busy open-plan office or a healthcare facility.
How many Wi-Fi networks can be created on the GWN7665?
16 SSIDs per band, i.e. 48 in total across the three radios, with 802.1Q VLAN tagging, 802.1x authentication and captive portal. Enough to separate staff, visitors and connected devices band by band.
Does the GWN7665 support WPA3?
Yes, in addition to WPA2-PSK and WPA/WPA2 Enterprise with TKIP or AES. The hardware boots on digitally signed firmware, and each access point leaves the factory with its own certificate and its own unique random password.
Do you need a hardware controller to manage several GWN7665 units?
No. A controller is built into the web interface of the access point and manages up to 50 local GWN access points, with no licence. GWN.Cloud manages an unlimited fleet free of charge, and GWN Manager, on your own servers, scales up to 3,000 access points.
What is the advertised 175-metre range really worth?
It is a range in open space, greatly reduced as soon as a wall gets in the way — all the more so on the 6 GHz band, which passes through obstacles less well than 2.4 GHz. In partitioned offices, think in terms of access points per floor rather than metres.
What is in the box, and where can the GWN7665 be mounted?
The access point, the wall and ceiling mounting kits and the quick start guide. The housing measures 205.3 × 205.3 × 45.9 mm and weighs 765 g, with three tri-colour LEDs and a Kensington lock slot against theft.
Can the GWN7665 cope with a hot equipment room?
Its operating range runs from 0 to 50 °C, with 10 to 95% non-condensing humidity — ten degrees more headroom than the average for this category. It remains designed for indoor use.
Is the equipment new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document for one year. The manufacturer's specifications are set out in this document: GWN7665 (PDF).
Covers 140 m² and more than 300 devices, with 5.8 Gbps on the 6 GHz band and a 2.5 Gbps port so the throughput is not held back. Ceiling and wall mount included in the box.
