Frequently asked questions about this product

How many ports on the LS106P provide PoE power?
Four out of six. Ports 1 to 4 deliver 802.3af/at PoE+, up to 30 W each, within a total budget of 65 W. The other two ports serve as uplinks to the router or main switch, without power.
Are the ports on this switch Gigabit?
No: all six ports are 10/100 Mbps. This is the point to check before connecting very high-definition cameras or a recorder: 100 Mbps is enough for a few video streams, but the port will not go any faster. Total capacity is 1.2 Gbps.
Can Extend mode reach 250 m?
Yes, on ports 1 to 4 — but the speed then drops to 10 Mbps. The range increases from 100 to 250 metres, for both data and power. Enough for an isolated camera at the far end of a plot, not enough for a high-definition stream.
Can you isolate the ports from one another without knowing how to configure a VLAN?
Yes, with Isolation mode, which you enable in a single move: connected devices can no longer see each other and communicate only with the uplink. It is the simplest way to separate cameras on an unmanaged switch.
What happens if a powered camera stops responding?
PoE auto recovery cuts and then restores power to the port to restart the device. A frozen camera therefore restarts on its own, with no on-site intervention — the most useful feature of this small switch on a spread-out installation.
How is this switch powered, and how much power does it draw?
By an external 53.5 V, 1.31 A power adapter, supplied with the switch: plan for a power outlet and room for the adapter. Power consumption reaches 66.53 W with the full 65 W of PoE in use. The case is fanless, so it is completely silent.
How much space does this switch take up, and which cable should you use?
The case measures 99.8 × 98 × 25 mm, barely bigger than a deck of cards. For cabling, Category 5 or higher is enough at 100 Mbps, over 100 m maximum in normal operation — the range is only extended in Extend mode.
Do you need to configure this switch before plugging it in?
No: it is plug-and-play, with no interface and no app. Extend, Isolation and PoE recovery modes are set with a physical switch on the case, not in software. Jumbo frames go up to 2 KB and the MAC address table holds 2,000 entries.
Is the switch new, and where can I find its datasheet?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The manufacturer's document covers the LS106P, its three operating modes and its environmental conditions in detail: datasheet (PDF).
