Does the HPE OfficeConnect 1405 5G v3 need configuring?
No: it is an unmanaged switch, preconfigured at the factory. No management IP address, no VLANs to declare: you plug it in and it switches. It is the simple choice for adding more network sockets in a small office.
Is a crossover cable needed to connect two switches?
No: Auto-MDIX adapts on its own to a straight-through or a crossover cable, on all ports. Auto-negotiation also sets the speed and duplex mode of each port.
Does this switch accept jumbo frames?
Yes, up to 9,216 bytes on the Gigabit ports, which improves throughput for large transfers to network storage. The buffer memory is 1 Mb.
How is voice traffic handled on this switch?
Through 802.1p quality of service, which distributes data according to priority level and traffic type, and through full-duplex flow control, which slows the sender down rather than dropping packets.
What performance does this 5-port switch offer?
10 Gbps switching capacity and up to 7.4 Mpps, with latency below 3 µs at 100 Mbps and below 2.6 µs at Gigabit. All five Gigabit ports can therefore work at the same time without a bottleneck.
Can this switch power an IP camera over PoE?
No, none of its ports supplies power. It only switches traffic and runs on an external power adapter, at 100-240 V. A camera or Wi-Fi access point will have to be powered some other way.
How much space and power should I plan for?
11.43 × 9.14 × 3.56 cm and 180 g, and 3 W maximum. It fits in one hand, runs silently and uses Energy Efficient Ethernet: it can stay on permanently without weighing on the electricity bill.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The manufacturer's documentation is available in the datasheet for the 1405 5G v3 (JH407A). LED indicators show the status, activity and speed of each port.
