Frequently asked questions about this product

What difference does the TL-SG105-M2's 2.5 Gbps make on existing cabling?
It multiplies the throughput of a Gigabit port by 2.5 without recabling: all five ports run at 2,500 Mbps over the Cat5e or Cat6 already in place, and drop back automatically to 100 or 1,000 Mbps for older devices.
What is a 2.5 Gbps switch for in a Wi-Fi 6 network?
To avoid holding back the access point: a Wi-Fi 6 or 6E access point exceeds Gigabit on its network port, so a Gigabit switch becomes the bottleneck. 2.5 Gbps lets through what the access point can actually deliver.
Does the TL-SG105-M2 need configuring?
No: it is unmanaged and works plug-and-play. No VLANs, no web interface, no management IP address — you plug it in and it switches. Auto MDI/MDI-X also means you never need a crossover cable.
What internal performance does this switch offer?
25 Gbps switching capacity and 18.6 Mpps, with a 16,000-entry MAC address table and a 1.5 MB packet buffer. All five ports can therefore run at 2.5 Gbps in both directions at the same time.
Does the switch support jumbo frames?
Yes, up to 10,000 bytes, which improves real-world throughput when copying to network storage. 802.3x flow control is also supported, with no setup required.
Does this switch power devices over PoE?
No, none of its five ports supplies power. A Wi-Fi access point connected to this switch therefore needs its own power adapter or a PoE injector placed on the link.
What power supply and how much space should I allow for?
An external 12 V / 1 A adapter, included, for 12.11 W maximum and 41.32 BTU/h of heat. The case measures 209 × 126 × 26 mm and operates from 0 to 40 °C: it sits on a desk or in a network cabinet.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The box contains an RJ-45 network cable and the quick start guide. CE, FCC and RoHS certified.
