Does the GWN7630LR really withstand rain and sun?
Yes, its housing is rated IP66 — dust-tight and protected against water jets — provided it is installed vertically. It operates from -30 to 60 °C, which covers a sun-baked façade as well as a warehouse without air conditioning.
Is a PoE+ switch needed to power this outdoor access point?
It is preferable: its power consumption reaches 16.5 W, above the 15.4 W that an 802.3af port can deliver. It accepts both standards and adjusts its power on its own, but a PoE+ 802.3at port gives it full headroom, especially when all four radio chains are working.
Are the GWN7630LR antennas replaceable?
Yes, its four 3.5 dBi dual-band omnidirectional antennas are detachable and can be swapped. This is the real advantage of a long-range model: you replace the omnidirectional antennas with directional ones to cover a corridor, a platform or an aisle rather than the whole area around the pole.
What is the advertised 300-metre range worth in real-world conditions?
It is a range in open space, with no obstacle between the access point and the device; it drops as soon as a wall, a line of trees or a building gets in the way. It nevertheless remains this model's key strength: covering a courtyard, a car park or a campsite where an indoor access point stops at a few dozen metres.
How many devices can the GWN7630LR handle simultaneously?
More than 200 Wi-Fi clients at the same time, with a combined throughput of 2.33 Gbps: 1,733 Mbps on 5 GHz and 600 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, served in 4x4:4 MU-MIMO on each of the two bands.
How is the GWN7630LR mounted, and are the brackets supplied?
By wall or pole mounting, with both kits supplied along with the access point and the quick start guide. The housing is long and narrow — 533.1 × 115 × 40 mm for 564 g, and 706 g once the brackets are fitted.
Is a hardware controller needed to manage several GWN7630LR units?
No. A controller is built into the web interface of the access point and manages up to 50 local GWN access points, with no licence or server. GWN.Cloud manages an unlimited number of devices free of charge from a browser or a mobile app.
Can two buildings be linked without running a cable between them?
Yes, GWN access points form a mesh network: a remote access point connects wirelessly to the wired one, which avoids digging a trench or laying a fibre link. It does, however, need its own PoE power supply on site.
Which frequency bands does the GWN7630LR operate on?
Across the entire 2.4 GHz band (2,412-2,484 MHz) and on all 5 GHz sub-bands, from 5,150 to 5,850 MHz, with 20, 40 or 80 MHz channels. The usable sub-bands depend on local regulations, which the access point applies automatically.
Is the GWN7630LR suitable for Wi-Fi IP phones and video?
Yes. Advanced QoS (802.11e/WMM, VLAN, TOS) reserves bandwidth for real-time streams: this is the stated use case for Wi-Fi IP phones and video phones, including outdoors.
Can a guest network be separated from the internal network on this access point?
Yes: 16 SSIDs per band, with 802.1Q VLAN tagging, 802.1x authentication and a captive portal for visitors. Each network has its own access rules, with no additional equipment.
How is the access point protected against malicious tampering?
By secure boot and the locking of critical data and commands with a digital signature, as well as by a unique certificate and a random factory password specific to each device: two access points from the same batch do not share the same default password.
Is the equipment new and under warranty?
