Can the AP160 be mounted on an existing flush-mounting box?
Yes, its 86 × 86 mm panel mounts on a standard flush-mounting box, in place of a wall socket. The unit is 42.5 mm thick and weighs only 140 g: in a bedroom or an office, the access point blends into the wall.
What power supply do you need for the AP160?
A PoE 802.3af port is enough: the access point draws 9.1 W maximum, well below the 15.4 W of the standard. A single network cable therefore delivers both power and data to the wall, with no power outlet needed nearby.
What is the second Ethernet port on the AP160 for?
Its two 10/100/1000 Mbps ports share the roles: one receives the network uplink and PoE, the other serves a wired device in the room — a TV, a desktop PC or a phone. A room is thus covered by Wi-Fi and cabled with a single device.
How many devices can the AP160 handle at the same time?
Up to 128, for a combined data rate of 1.775 Gbps: 1.2 Gbps on the 5 GHz band and 575 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. That is the right size for a bedroom, an office or a classroom, not a reception hall.
What does the AP160's smart antenna do?
It adjusts coverage on its own according to users' movements, to maintain a stable signal with no manual adjustment. Its gain reaches 3 dBi on the 2.4 GHz band and 2 dBi on 5 GHz, all built into the wall panel.
How many Wi-Fi networks can the AP160 broadcast?
Up to 6 SSIDs per radio, with one VLAN assigned per SSID and optional hiding. That is fewer than a campus ceiling-mounted access point, but enough to separate the occupants' network, the staff network and the network for the room's equipment.
How do you deploy several AP160 units in a hotel without configuring them one by one?
With the HUAWEI eKit app: connecting to the management Wi-Fi, scanning the device's barcode, or designating a lead access point that pushes the configuration to the others. The access points then register with the platform on their own and are managed remotely.
What operating modes does the AP160 offer?
Three: Fat (standalone, with its own web interface and SNMP v1, v2 and v3), Fit (managed by a WAC controller, with automatic configuration loading and batch upgrades), and cloud (managed from the Huawei platform).
What security protections does the AP160 include?
WPA3 and WPA2, 802.1X authentication, DTLS encryption of communication with the controller, IP Source Guard and dynamic ARP inspection — two wired protections that block address spoofing from the wall socket.
Does the connection hold when moving from one room to another?
Yes: the access point supports 802.11r fast roaming and the 802.11k and 802.11v mechanisms, which steer the device to the best access point without re-authentication. An ongoing call therefore does not drop in a corridor.
How does the AP160 distribute devices between its two bands?
Through priority access to the 5 GHz band: compatible devices are steered there, which relieves the more congested 2.4 GHz band. BSS colouring also distinguishes neighbouring networks to limit interference between nearby access points.
Can the AP160 locate a device or detect a rogue access point?
Yes, it provides Wi-Fi terminal location and, when paired with a location server, detection of unwanted equipment transmitting on the premises. This is useful for asset inventory as well as for network security.
In what environment can the AP160 be installed?
Indoors, between 0 and 40 °C, at 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity, and up to 5,000 m altitude. Its low power consumption and wall-mounted format make it suited to bedrooms, classrooms, offices and medical practices.
