Does the AP-503 have a Bluetooth or Zigbee radio for connected devices?
No, not out of the box: Bluetooth 5 and Zigbee require an optional expansion radio, purchased separately. If your project relies on sensors or asset tracking, plan for this module — or for an access point from the higher series, which have it built in.
Is the AP-503's mounting kit supplied?
No, the mounting kits are available as options and are ordered separately, depending on the intended surface — ceiling rail, wall or junction box. Remember to add them to your order to avoid holding up the installation.
What power supply do you need for the AP-503?
A class 3 PoE port, that is, standard 802.3af: an entry-level PoE switch is enough, with no need for PoE+. A single network cable carries both power and data, with no power outlet needed on the ceiling.
What real-world data rate can you expect from the AP-503?
1.49 Gbps combined at most, with two spatial streams and 80 MHz channels. It is sized for premises with medium density — office, school, shop — where the number of simultaneous connections remains moderate.
Does the AP-503 help connected devices save battery?
Yes, the Wi-Fi 6 Target Wake Time feature schedules when each device should communicate with the access point, instead of leaving it listening all the time. Battery-powered sensors last longer and contention for airtime is reduced.
How do you isolate visitors and connected devices without multiplying VLANs?
Through dynamic segmentation: the access policy follows the user or the device rather than being fixed to a VLAN, an access control list or a subnet. The policy enforcement firewall applies it according to role, device type, application and location.
What level of encryption does the AP-503 provide?
WPA3 in Enterprise — with the CNSA option — and Personal (SAE) versions, as well as Enhanced Open (OWE), which encrypts an open guest network without a password. A TPM module stores credentials, passwords and boot code separately from the system.
Do you need an on-site controller to manage several AP-503s?
No: management is handled by HPE Aruba Networking Central, an AI-powered cloud platform that brings campuses, branches, remote sites and connected devices together on a single dashboard. Zero-touch provisioning allows a remote access point to be configured without technical expertise on site.
Does the AP-503 fix devices that stay stuck to an access point that is too far away?
Yes, ClientMatch technology redirects them to the access point offering a good radio signal, including while they are on the move. It is the classic problem of the device that clings to the corridor access point when another one is closer.
How much space does the AP-503 take up, and do its antennas protrude?
It is one of the most compact in the range: 14.5 × 14.5 cm and 3.5 cm thick, weighing 255 g. Its antennas are built in, omnidirectional and tilted about 30° downwards — optimised for horizontal ceiling mounting.
What connectors does the AP-503 have for day-to-day operation?
An RJ-45 Ethernet port, a USB 2.0 Type-A port and a serial console on a micro-B connector. The console proves invaluable on the day the access point no longer shows up on the network and has to be diagnosed on site.
