Frequently asked questions about this product

What do the 2.5 Gbps ports of the GWN7701M offer?
All eight ports negotiate 100, 1,000 or 2,500 Mbps: a Wi-Fi 6 access point or a multi-gigabit NAS can finally go beyond the Gigabit ceiling over a simple copper cable. The gain only shows if the equipment at the other end also runs at 2.5 Gbps.
What is the SFP+ port on this switch for?
For a fibre uplink to the network core, at 1 or 10 Gbps depending on the optical module inserted: eight 2.5 Gbps ports are not bottlenecked by a single copper uplink. The module is not in the box, which contains the switch, its power adapter and the guide.
Can this switch be configured?
No: it is an unmanaged model, with no interface or app. It works as soon as it is plugged in, with no VLANs or settings possible. To segment or monitor the network, you need a managed switch — here, everything is automatic.
Can this model power devices over PoE?
No: the GWN7701M has no PoE ports. Every camera or access point connected to it must have its own power supply. In the same series, only the GWN7700MP powers four ports, up to 30 W each, within a 57 W budget.
What internal performance does this 8-port model offer?
60 Gbps switching capacity, a 4,000-entry MAC address table and jumbo frames of up to 9 KB: the eight 2.5 Gbps links and the 10 Gigabit uplink can all work at once without internal congestion.
How does this switch protect the network against storms?
Storm control monitors broadcast, multicast and unicast traffic, with a threshold fixed at 100 Mbps — not adjustable, since the switch is unmanaged. IGMP snooping also prevents flooding every port.
Where can this switch be installed, and is it noisy?
On a desk or mounted on a wall: the metal case measures 190 × 100 × 28 mm and is fanless, so it runs silently. It operates from 0 to 40 °C, at 10 to 90% humidity, non-condensing.
How is this switch powered, and how much power does it use?
By an external 12 V, 1 A power adapter, included: make sure there is a power socket nearby. The maximum consumption of the base system is 9.7 W, and the IEEE 802.3az standard reduces power further during quiet periods.
Is the switch new, and where can I view its datasheet?
