Why does the AP-535 have two 5 Gbps ports?
Because its 4x4 radio goes well beyond Gigabit: with 2.97 Gbps combined, a 1 Gbps port would become the bottleneck. Its two ports negotiate 100 Mbps, 1, 2.5 or 5 Gbps depending on the switch at the other end, and can be aggregated or dedicated to separate uses.
What PoE power supply do you need for the AP-535?
An 802.3at PoE+ port at minimum. Below the required budget, intelligent power monitoring (IPM) disables certain features rather than shutting the access point down; an 802.3bt PoE++ source, on the other hand, gives it its full capabilities.
What difference does the AP-535's 4x4 MIMO make in a very busy room?
Four spatial streams per radio instead of two: the access point communicates with more devices in parallel. Combined with OFDMA and bidirectional MU-MIMO, this is what keeps a lecture theatre, an open-plan office or a training centre running at peak times.
Does the AP-535 help IoT devices save battery power?
Yes, the Target Wake Time feature schedules when each device needs to communicate with the access point, instead of leaving it listening all the time. Battery-powered sensors last longer, and contention for airtime decreases.
Can the AP-535 act as a gateway for IoT devices?
Yes, it integrates Bluetooth 5 and an 802.15.4 (Zigbee) radio, complemented by a USB port for an external module. Sensors, beacons and security solutions connect without an overlay network or a dedicated gateway.
How can you isolate IoT devices without multiplying VLANs?
With dynamic segmentation: the access policy follows the user or device instead of being fixed to a VLAN, an access control list or a subnet. The policy enforcement firewall encapsulates the traffic all the way to the gateway to encrypt and inspect it.
What level of encryption does the AP-535 provide?
WPA3 in Enterprise — with the CNSA option — and Personal (SAE) versions, as well as Enhanced Open (OWE) to encrypt an open guest network. A TPM module stores credentials, passwords and boot code separately from the rest of the system.
Does the AP-535 draw its full power all the time?
No: an AI-driven dynamic power-saving mode scales back its activity when demand drops, then automatically restores it as soon as connections return. Intelligent power monitoring also adjusts features according to the available PoE budget.
Can the AP-535 be installed in a suspended ceiling or a hospital?
Yes: it carries the UL 2043 plenum rating, required in the air-return space of a suspended ceiling, and complies with the EN 60601-1-1 and EN 60601-1-2 standards for medical equipment. The AP-535 additionally has its own railway certifications: EN 50155, EN 50121 and IEC 61373.
Are the AP-535's antennas internal, and how much space does the access point take up?
Internal: four downtilt omnidirectional dual-band antennas, rated at 3.5 dBi on 2.4 GHz and 5.4 dBi on 5 GHz. The enclosure measures 270 × 270 mm and 80 mm thick and weighs 1 kg: it is a large access point, best planned for an unobstructed ceiling.
Can the AP-535 be deployed at a remote site without a technician?
Yes, through zero-touch provisioning: the access point is shipped, plugged in on site, then configured remotely from HPE Aruba Networking Central, which provides a unified view of wired, wireless, WAN and VPN networks.
What management connectors does the AP-535 have?
Two RJ-45 Ethernet ports, a serial console on a micro-B connector, a USB 2.0 Type-A port and a Kensington lock slot. The console is invaluable when the access point no longer shows up on the network and has to be diagnosed on site.
Does the AP-535 fix devices that stay stuck on an access point that is too far away?
Yes, ClientMatch technology steers them to the access point with the best radio signal. Client Insights packet inspection completes the picture by identifying devices and continuously monitoring those that behave abnormally.
Is the equipment new and under warranty?
