Frequently asked questions about this product

How many ports on the TL-SF1008P provide PoE?
Four of the eight ports, to the 802.3af standard — i.e. up to 15.4 W per port — within a total budget of 57 W. The other four ports are for devices that already have their own power and for the link to the router.
Can this switch power a demanding PoE+ camera?
It uses the 802.3af standard, the original PoE. Motorised or heated cameras and recent Wi-Fi access points often require the more powerful PoE+ 802.3at: check the standard stated on the device before connecting it.
Are the ports on the TL-SF1008P Gigabit?
No: they are 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet. That is enough for IP cameras, phones and office computers, but not for heavy transfers to network storage or for a large number of simultaneous high-definition video streams.
Do you need to configure the switch before connecting the cameras?
No: it is unmanaged and fully plug-and-play. PoE switches on by itself when a compatible device is detected, and auto MDI/MDI-X does away with crossover cables. There is no IP address and no management interface to configure.
What power supply does the TL-SF1008P need?
An external 48 V / 1.25 A adapter, included. This voltage is what powers the PoE devices: the original adapter therefore cannot be replaced with a generic spare adapter.
What performance does this switch offer?
1.6 Gbps switching capacity in store-and-forward mode, with a 2,000-entry MAC address table that is learned and refreshed automatically. 802.3x flow control works in both full duplex and half duplex.
How much space does the TL-SF1008P take up?
171 × 98 × 27 mm: a desktop casing that sits next to the router or in a small cabinet. It operates from 0 to 40 °C, at 10 to 90% relative humidity.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The switch comes with its power adapter and user guide, and carries FCC, CE and RoHS certification.
