Frequently asked questions about this product

How many ports on the TL-SG1005LP provide PoE?
Four of the five Gigabit ports, with PoE+ 802.3at, the fifth serving as the link to the router. The total budget is 40 W: a single PoE+ device at full power would already use 30 of them, so you need to spread out low-consumption devices.
Can the TL-SG1005LP be configured?
No: it is an unmanaged, fully automatic model. PoE switches on by itself when a compatible device is detected, and auto MDI/MDI-X does away with crossover cables. There is no web interface and no management IP address.
Does this PoE switch make any noise?
No: it is fanless, so it runs silently. That is a real plus for a switch that powers a camera or a Wi-Fi access point and often sits in a living room, an office or an open equipment room.
Can this switch be mounted on a wall?
Yes, wall mounting is supported. The compact casing, 99.8 mm wide, can be screwed close to the patch point or under a piece of furniture, so it is not left lying on the floor with its PoE cables.
How much power should you allow for this switch?
47.5 W maximum, PoE included, from a 100-240 V power supply that is included. This figure covers the 40 W delivered to the devices: the switch itself uses very little.
What performance does this switch offer?
10 Gbps switching capacity and 7.44 Mpps, with a 2,000-entry MAC address table and support for jumbo frames up to 16,000 bytes. IGMP snooping also limits the spread of multicast video streams.
What cable do you need to sustain Gigabit speeds on this switch?
Cat5e or better: the switch accepts Categories 3 to 6 and automatically switches to the speed that the cable and the device allow, in 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX or 1000BASE-T.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The TL-SG1005LP operates from 0 to 40 °C, comes with its power adapter and carries FCC, CE and RoHS certification.
