Frequently asked questions about this product

How many ports on the TL-SF1005P provide PoE?
Four of the five ports, to the 802.3af standard — i.e. up to 15.4 W per port — within a total budget of 58 W. The four PoE ports can therefore power four fixed cameras at the same time.
Can this switch power a demanding PoE+ camera?
It uses the 802.3af standard, the original PoE. Motorised or heated cameras and recent Wi-Fi access points often require the more powerful PoE+ 802.3at: check the standard stated on the device before connecting it.
Are the ports on the TL-SF1005P Gigabit?
No: they are 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet. That is enough for entry-level video surveillance cameras, IP phones and office computers, but not for many high-definition video streams.
How far can this switch power a camera?
100 m maximum, the standard length of a copper Ethernet segment. Beyond that, you need to insert a second switch or use fibre: neither data nor power can go past this limit.
What power supply does the TL-SF1005P need?
An external 48 V / 1.25 A adapter, included, for 64.82 W maximum once the 58 W of PoE is being delivered. This voltage is used directly to power the PoE devices: the original adapter cannot be replaced with a generic one.
Do you need to configure this switch before connecting the cameras?
No: it is unmanaged and works as soon as it is plugged in. PoE switches on when a compatible device is detected, and auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDI-X take care of the rest.
How much space does this switch take up?
99.8 × 97.8 × 25 mm: the footprint of a hand. It slips into a wall-mounted network cabinet or behind a piece of furniture, with a 2,000-entry MAC address table for a small network.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The TL-SF1005P operates from 0 to 40 °C, comes with its power adapter and user guide, and carries FCC, CE and RoHS certification.
