Frequently asked questions about this product

Will this Patriot P210 SSD fit in a laptop?
Yes: a 2.5-inch format, 7 mm thick, exactly the bay freed up by a laptop hard drive. It measures 100 × 69.6 × 7 mm and weighs 46 g, and fits a tower just as well as a laptop, on a SATA port.
Does it work on an older computer that only has SATA II?
Yes, the SATA III 6 Gb/s interface is backward compatible with SATA II: the drive works, at the speed the port allows. As for operating systems, Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 are supported — Windows 7 and 8.0 may require a driver during installation.
How long can this SSD last before it wears out?
Its rated endurance is 240 TB written (TBW), or nearly 470 complete rewrites of the 512 GB. This endurance is counted in terabytes written: it is only used up by writing, never by reading.
How can I monitor its health and keep it from slowing down over time?
It supports S.M.A.R.T., which reports its health information, and the TRIM command, which maintains performance as data is written. The controller adds advanced memory management on top.
What practical difference does it make compared with a conventional hard drive?
520 MB/s read and 430 MB/s write sequential, but above all 50,000 IOPS at 4K random, for both reads and writes. It is this last figure that you feel when the system starts up and applications open.
Does it run hot, and can it handle prolonged use?
Its operating range is 0 to 70 °C, which comfortably covers a desk as well as a carry bag. Its low power consumption reduces the heat released and preserves battery life on a laptop, and S.M.A.R.T. lets you check its health at any time.
Is the SSD new, and what warranty applies?
Yes, new and sealed in its original packaging, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the warranty document for 1 year. It bears the CE, FCC and RoHS markings, under the manufacturer part number P210S512G25. Performance details are given in the Patriot datasheet (PDF).
