Frequently asked questions about this product

How are the ZyXEL XGS1010-12 V2's ports split?
8 Gigabit ports, 2 × 2.5 Gbps ports and 2 × 10 Gbps SFP+ slots. This combination is made for a small network where a storage device or a server deserves better than Gigabit, without moving up to an enterprise switch.
What are the two SFP+ slots for?
To connect the switch at 10 Gbps to network storage or a core device, over fibre. It is this fast link that then feeds the workstations connected at Gigabit without creating a bottleneck.
Does the XGS1010-12 V2 need configuring?
No: it is an unmanaged model, with no SNMP monitoring. No VLANs, no web interface: each port automatically negotiates the highest speed the connected device accepts, from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps.
Does this switch power devices over PoE?
No, none of its ports supplies power. A multi-Gigabit Wi-Fi access point connected to this switch therefore needs its own power adapter or a PoE injector on the link.
How much space and power should I allow for?
250 × 104 × 27 mm and 768 g, and just 11.53 W. That is little for a switch with 10 Gbps on board: it sits on a desk or in a network cabinet with no particular ventilation constraints.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. This is the ZyXEL XGS1010-12 V2, a 12-port unmanaged multi-Gigabit switch.
