Frequently asked questions about this product

Does the WAP121 broadcast on the 5 GHz band?
No, it is a single-band access point: it transmits only on the 2.4 GHz band, in Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n), at up to 150 Mbps. It remains compatible with older 802.11b and 802.11g devices.
Do you need a power outlet near the WAP121?
No, the access point is powered through the network cable (PoE): a single Ethernet link delivers both power and data. This is what allows it to be placed high up or in a suspended ceiling, far from any outlet.
What encryption does the WAP121 support?
WPA and WPA2 — the latter is the one to use —, as well as legacy WEP for older equipment. This is the level expected of an access point of this generation, sufficient for a small organisation's network.
Does the WAP121 work on an IPv6 network?
Yes, it is IPv6-compatible, in addition to IPv4. This is a point worth checking on older access points, when the company network or the operator's connection switches to IPv6.
How much space does the WAP121 take up?
124.17 × 124.17 × 35 mm for only 168 g: a square barely wider than a hand, very discreet on a wall or a suspended-ceiling tile.
How many network ports does the WAP121 have?
Just one: a female RJ45 Ethernet port, which serves both for the network link and for PoE power. No wired device can therefore be connected to the access point itself.
Is the equipment new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document for 1 year. It is an access point from the Cisco Small Business range, designed for small organisations and simple deployments.
