What difference does the GWN7664E's 4x4 MIMO make in a busy room?
Four radio chains per band instead of two, with eight internal antennas — four per band. The access point communicates with more devices in parallel, which brings the data rate to 4,804 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1,147 Mbps on 2.4 GHz.
Why does the GWN7664E have two 2.5 Gbps ports?
Because its radios add up to 6 Gbps: a Gigabit port would become the bottleneck. The two 2.5 Gbps ports offer 5 Gbps of wired throughput, provided the switch at the other end also supports 2.5 Gbps.
How many devices can the GWN7664E serve at the same time?
512 concurrent Wi-Fi clients, served by uplink and downlink OFDMA. This is one of the highest figures in the range, sized for an office building, a hotel or a multi-storey residence.
What power supply does the GWN7664E need?
A PoE+ 802.3at port: its power consumption reaches 21 W, beyond the 15.4 W of an 802.3af port. Also check the switch's total PoE budget before connecting several of them.
Are 160 MHz channels needed to reach the 4,804 Mbps?
Yes. The 5 GHz band accepts 20, 40, 80 or 160 MHz channels, and it is at 160 MHz, with all four spatial streams, that this data rate is reached. The 2.4 GHz band is limited to 20 or 40 MHz.
How many Wi-Fi networks can be created on the GWN7664E?
32 SSIDs in total, 16 per band, with VLAN tagging, 802.1x authentication and a captive portal for visitors. Enough to keep staff, guests and connected devices apart on a single access point.
Does the GWN7664E support WPA3?
Yes, in addition to WPA2-PSK and WPA/WPA2 Enterprise with TKIP or AES. The hardware boots from digitally signed firmware, and each access point leaves the factory with its own certificate and its own random password.
Do you need a hardware controller to manage several GWN7664E units?
No. A controller is built into the web interface of the access point and manages up to 50 local GWN access points, with no licence. GWN.Cloud manages an unlimited fleet free of charge, and GWN Manager, on your own servers, scales up to 3,000 access points.
What is the advertised 175-metre range really worth?
It is an open-space range, greatly reduced as soon as a wall gets in the way. It relies on an internal antenna design focused on interference resistance; in partitioned offices, think in terms of access points per floor rather than metres.
