In front of a guitar amp, a snare drum or a brass instrument, it takes high levels without distorting. Its internal shock mount absorbs handling noise, and its build takes years of stage work.

  • Cardioid pattern: isolates the instrument in front and rejects sound coming from behind
  • XLR connection: requires a mixing desk or an audio interface
  • Handles high sound pressure levels without distortion
  • Internal shock mount against handling noise
  • Response tuned for acoustic and amplified instruments
  • Hard-wearing construction, made for heavy use
  • A25D clip, multi-thread adapter and carrying pouch included

Non-contractual photos

The visuals on this page are supplied by the manufacturer. They are frequently produced for a whole range — not for the exact model you are viewing: what you see in the photo is never a promise of what is included.

No exchange, return or cancellation will be accepted on the grounds that something seen in a photo (accessory, port, colour, keyboard layout, packaging…) is not found on the delivered product. Only the specifications written on the page are binding for the order.

What the image does not guarantee:

  • Staging : microphone stand, boom arm, pop filter, mounts and ambient speakers photographed are not included unless stated.
  • Quantity : the number of speakers or channels visible in the image does not necessarily match the set sold.
  • Cables and tips : the cables, adapters, ear tips and cases supplied are those listed in the specifications.
  • Specifications : Bluetooth, jack socket, USB, noise cancellation and battery life cannot be read from a photo.
  • Colour : one image often serves several colours, and the shade you see depends on studio lighting as much as on your screen settings; the colour sold is the one in the title and the specifications.
  • Props and accessories : the items shown around the product (cables, stands, decorative objects, content displayed on screen) are not included unless explicitly stated.
  • Packaging : boxes, labels and bundles change with the manufacturer's revisions: the packaging delivered may differ from the one in the photo.

What is binding: the product title, this page's technical specifications, the description and, when provided, the manufacturer's PDF datasheet available in the downloads.

Frequently asked questions about this product

Can the Shure SM57 be plugged directly into a computer?
No: it is a microphone with an XLR connection. It requires a mixing desk or an audio interface between it and the computer. Include one in your budget if you are starting from scratch.
Can the SM57 be placed in front of a guitar amp?
Yes: it handles high sound pressure levels without distortion. That is precisely its signature use, in front of an amp, a snare drum or a brass instrument.
What difference does the SM57’s cardioid polar pattern make?
It isolates the targeted instrument and rejects sound coming from behind the capsule. On stage, this avoids picking up the neighbouring drum kit along with the amp you are miking.
What is the frequency response of the Shure SM57?
From 40 to 15,000 Hz, a response optimised for acoustic and amplified instruments — drums, percussion, brass. It is not the flat curve of a measurement microphone, but a curve tailored to the instrument.
Does the SM57 pick up handling noise?
It is reduced by an internal shock-mount system. The microphone therefore stays silent when you move it or adjust it on its stand during a session.
What is in the box of the Shure SM57?
The microphone, the A25D clip, a multi-thread adapter to fit different stand threads, and a carrying pouch. Nothing extra to buy to mount it on a stand.
Can the SM57 withstand heavy use on stage?
Yes: its durable construction is explicitly designed for heavy use. That explains why it has been found, unchanged, on stages for decades.
Is this Shure SM57 microphone new and under warranty?
Yes, it is a new Shure product, part number SM57-LCE, a cardioid dynamic microphone with an XLR connection. The invoice serves as the warranty document for 1 year. Keep it in case a defect is found.
