7,300 MB/s read and 6,000 MB/s write. The 7,300/7,000 MB/s highlighted for the series applies to the 2 TB and 4 TB capacities; the 500 GB drops to 3,900 MB/s write. The 1 TB is therefore within a few per cent of the top of the range.

Which cooling version does this part number come with?

The low-profile aluminium-graphene heat spreader, which brings the module to 80 × 22 × 2.21 mm and 7 g. The range is also available with a much taller heatsink, 23.67 × 10.5 mm and 32.1 g, which adds an extra layer of cooling.

Can it be installed in a PlayStation 5?

Yes, the FURY Renegade is rated as PS5-compatible. Kingston specifies that it is the version fitted with the heatsink that provides an extra layer of cooling when gaming gets intense; this particular part number comes with the 2.21 mm low-profile heat spreader.

How do its random IOPS perform at this capacity?

900,000 read and 1,000,000 write 4K random IOPS. These small accesses are what make the system feel responsive: loading a level made up of thousands of assets, capturing and live streaming, switching between several heavy applications.

What is the write endurance of this 1 TB model?

1 petabyte, or a thousand complete fills of the drive. That is double the 500 GB, which tops out at 500 TB. On a gaming machine, where installs and updates account for most of the data written, this allowance far exceeds the lifespan of the build.

How much power does it draw at peak?

6.3 W maximum when writing and 2.8 W when reading, with an average of 0.33 W. This peak is what explains the heat spreader: in a gaming laptop or on a crowded motherboard, the module must be able to dissipate this energy so that it does not throttle itself.

Can it withstand the vibrations of a gaming laptop on the move?

It tolerates 2.17 G in operation, from 7 to 800 Hz, and 20 G when not operating, from 20 to 1,000 Hz. With no moving parts, it has no motor or read head to protect: the slim M.2 format is designed precisely for gaming laptops.
