Frequently asked questions about this product

How thick is the module with its heatsink?
10.5 mm, at 80 × 23.67 mm and 32.1 g. This is the first thing to check: this height requires real clearance above the M.2 slot, and the 23.67 mm width exceeds the usual 22 mm footprint.
Is this version better suited to a PlayStation 5?
It is the one fitted with the heatsink, which Kingston says adds an extra layer of heat dissipation so that the console does not overheat when gaming gets intense. The FURY Renegade is rated as PS5-compatible in both versions.
What speeds does this 1 TB version deliver?
7,300 MB/s read and 6,000 MB/s write. The 7,300/7,000 MB/s highlighted for the series applies to the 2 TB and 4 TB capacities; the 500 GB drops to 3,900 MB/s write. The 1 TB is therefore within a few per cent of the top of the range.
How do its random IOPS perform at this capacity?
900,000 read and 1,000,000 write 4K random IOPS. These small accesses are what make the system feel responsive: loading a level made up of thousands of assets, capturing and live streaming, switching between several heavy applications.
What is the write endurance of this 1 TB model?
1 petabyte, or a thousand complete fills of the drive, compared with 500 TB on the 500 GB version. On a gaming machine, where installs and updates account for most of the data written, this allowance far exceeds the lifespan of the build.
Which controller does this SSD use, and why is it decisive?
A Phison E18, combined with 3D TLC memory and a dedicated DRAM cache. It is this trio that sustains 7,300 MB/s read and nearly a million IOPS: on a drive of this calibre, the controller weighs as much in the result as the memory itself.
How much power does it draw at peak?
6.3 W maximum when writing and 2.8 W when reading, with an average of 0.33 W. It is precisely this peak that the aluminium heatsink has to dissipate: without it, the module would throttle itself so as not to exceed its 0 to 70 °C range.
Is the drive new and under warranty?
It is new and your invoice serves as the warranty document. It carries the part number SFYRSK/1000G — the final K denoting the heatsink version. The full datasheet details the capacities and the two cooling options available.
