Frequently asked questions about this product

What speeds does the NV2 deliver in its 1 TB version?
3,500 MB/s read and 2,100 MB/s write. The 3,500/2,800 MB/s highlighted for the series applies to the 2 TB and larger capacities; the 250 GB drops to 3,000/1,300. This capacity therefore sits in the middle of the range for write speed.
Is the module single-sided?
Yes, the NV2 uses a single-sided M.2 2280 design, 2.2 mm thick and weighing 7 g. Nothing protrudes on the underside of the board: this makes it suitable for ultraportable computers, small form factor systems and custom motherboards where space is tight.
How many terabytes can this 1 TB model write?
320 TB, or 320 complete fills of the drive. The figures for the series are published: 80 TB on the 250 GB and 160 TB on the 500 GB. This allowance can be tracked as a percentage used in the Kingston SSD Manager application.
Does this SSD run hot in an ultraportable computer?
Kingston highlights lower power requirements and less heat, presented as a way to optimise system performance without compromise. In an ultraportable, where little air circulates under the cover, this is as tangible a benefit as peak speed.
What slot do I need to install this module?
An M.2 2280 connector — 22 mm wide by 80 mm long — wired for PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe. This is the standard on recent motherboards and laptops. Locate the screw point: if it sits 80 mm from the connector, the length is right.
Do I need a PCIe 4.0 motherboard to get the most out of it?
That is the platform it is designed for: the NV2 uses a Gen 4x4 NVMe controller. In a slot from an earlier generation, the bus becomes the limiting factor, not the drive. The advertised speeds assume a PCIe 4.0 motherboard.
Is 1 TB enough, or should I go bigger?
Kingston offers the NV2 from 250 GB to 4 TB in the same format. The 1 TB covers the system, applications and a comfortable library of documents, photos and games; beyond that, what you mainly gain is endurance, with each step doubling the write allowance.
Is the drive new and under warranty?
It is new and your invoice serves as the warranty document. It carries the part number SNV2S/1000G, to be quoted for any return. The full datasheet gives the speeds and endurance capacity by capacity.
