Why does this switch line up 24 SFP ports?
To aggregate an entire tier of fibre-connected access switches: each Gigabit SFP slot takes an optical module and serves a room or a building. Four combo RJ45 ports still let you connect copper.
What latency does this aggregation switch claim?
Less than 4 microseconds, with 128 Gbps of switching capacity and 95.232 Mpps. This is the level expected of equipment placed at the centre of the network, where every microsecond affects all traffic flows.
Does this switch support dynamic routing?
Yes: static and dynamic routing with RIP, RIPng, OSPF and OSPFv3, over IPv4 as well as IPv6. It can therefore serve as the central routing point for a building, without an additional router.
What happens if the power supply fails?
An external 12 V, 60 W redundant power supply is available as an option: it takes over and keeps the network core running. On an aggregation switch, a power failure cuts off the whole building.
How many links can be aggregated on this switch?
Fourteen aggregation groups, to be shared between the fibre slots and the 10 Gbps SFP+ uplinks. Enough to double or quadruple the links to the busiest devices.
How do you restrict network access on this switch?
With 802.1X authentication backed by RADIUS or TACACS+, and with 4,000 VLANs using 802.1Q tagging, plus a voice VLAN for telephony. Each department ends up in its own segment.
Where can this switch be installed?
In a rack, on a wall or on a desk, with the mounting kits included. It is managed through GWN.Cloud, GWN Manager or the local web interface, as you choose depending on the site's internal policy.
