Frequently asked questions about this product

Does the 2930F 24G JL259A power devices over PoE?
No: this part number is the non-PoE version. Its 24 Gigabit ports carry data only, and the 4 SFP slots are used for uplinks. The PoE+ version from the same series, the JL255A, offers a 370 W budget.
Can this switch route between several subnets?
Yes, it is a Layer 3 model: static routing — 256 routes —, RIP v1, v2 and RIPng, and Access OSPF in OSPFv2 and OSPFv3. VLAN segmentation therefore no longer means sending every internal exchange up to the site router.
What are the OSPF limits on this model?
A single OSPF area and eight interfaces at most. This is access-level OSPF, designed to connect a building to a network core — not to carry the routed topology of an entire campus, which calls for an aggregation device.
Can several of these switches be stacked?
Yes, up to eight with front-panel VSF stacking: the stack is managed as a single chassis, in a ring topology that survives the loss of a member. A link aggregation group can even combine ports located on several members.
How many VLANs does this switch support simultaneously?
2,000 active VLANs, with IDs taken from the full 802.1Q range of 4,094 values. RPVST+ calculates one spanning tree per VLAN, and private VLANs isolate workstations within the same segment.
Can you regain control of the switch when the network is down?
Yes, through out-of-band management: an RS-232C serial port or a micro-USB port opens the console. In-band, the choice remains wide — web interface, command line, Telnet, SNMP, RMON1, FTP, and the Aruba Central, AirWave or HPE IMC platforms.
How much buffer memory does this switch have to absorb bursts?
12.38 MB, split into 4.5 MB ingress and 7.875 MB egress, with 1 GB of DDR3 SDRAM, 4 GB of eMMC memory and a dual-core Arm Cortex A9 processor at 1,016 MHz. Traffic peaks are absorbed instead of being dropped.
How much space and power should you plan for this chassis?
442.5 × 200.2 × 43.9 mm, i.e. 1U and only 20 cm deep — it fits in a wall-mount cabinet, unlike the PoE version, which is more than 30 cm deep. Power consumption peaks at 29.3 W.
What internal performance does this 24-port model offer?
56 Gbps of switching capacity and up to 41.7 Mpps, on the ProVision ASIC designed for low latency and generous buffering. Queues are configurable, along with the associated buffer memory, according to the applications on the network.
What security features does this switch provide?
802.1X authentication, local MAC authentication with automatic VLAN assignment, access control lists, RADIUS and TACACS+, SNMPv3 and IPv4/IPv6 dual stack. Dynamic segmentation can place a user's traffic in a tunnel to an Aruba controller.
Is the switch new, and where can I find its datasheet?
