Grandstream GWN7801P Layer 2+ managed switch: 8 Gigabit PoE+ ports and 2 SFP ports to build a scalable, secure business network managed from the cloud. PoE: the 8 × 10/100/1000 Mbit/s RJ45 ports each deliver up to 30 W (IEEE 802.3af/at), for a 120 W PoE budget to power IP cameras, Wi-Fi access points and IP phones without extra mains sockets. The 2 Gigabit SFP ports provide fibre links to connect buildings or interconnect switches. Management:L2+ switch configurable through the local web interface, GWN.Cloud (free cloud management) or GWN Manager (on-premises); 4K VLAN, QoS, IGMP Snooping, link aggregation, 802.1X authentication, ARP inspection, DoS protection. Also:20 Gbit/s switching capacity, 14.88 Mpps throughput, 8K MAC table, STP/RSTP/MSTP, 1U rack-mountable metal case, IPv4/IPv6.

Frequently asked questions about this product
How many devices can the GWN7801P's 120 W of PoE power?
120 W shared across the 8 ports, with a maximum of 30 W per port under 802.3af/at. Eight 12 W cameras fit easily; four 30 W Wi-Fi access points use up the entire budget. Per-port priority lets you choose which devices stay powered when the budget runs out.
Can power to a PoE port be switched off at a set time?
Yes, a user-defined schedule controls power to each PoE port — handy for turning off a Wi-Fi access point at night or forcing a frozen camera to restart. LLDP-MED negotiation also adjusts power to what the device actually requests.
What are the two SFP ports on this 8-port model for?
They are two Gigabit SFP slots for the fibre uplink: they connect this floor switch to the core switch or to another building, beyond copper's 100 metres. Optical modules are not in the box and should be chosen according to the distance and type of fibre.
How many VLANs can be configured on the GWN7801P?
4,000 VLANs, with IEEE 802.1Q tagging, port-based VLAN and voice VLAN, plus VLAN virtual interfaces — enough to separate cameras, telephony, workstations and guests on the same floor switch. GVRP, which would distribute VLANs automatically, is listed as “pending”.
Can this switch hand out the network's IP addresses?
Yes: it has a built-in DHCP server and DHCP relay, with options 82, 60, 160 and 43, very useful for auto-provisioning IP phones. DHCP snooping, for its part, discards any reply coming from a port not declared as trusted.
How does the switch respond to a cabling loop?
STP, RSTP and MSTP block the redundant path, with loop protection, BPDU protection and root protection. Storm control limits broadcast bursts, and port security disables a port as soon as the number of learned MAC addresses exceeds the set limit.
Is a subscription required for GWN cloud management?
No. GWN.Cloud and GWN Manager are offered at no extra cost, and the controller is already built into the switch's web interface. Three modes therefore coexist: local web, cloud, or a platform installed on your own server. CLI and SNMP v1, v2c and v3 remain available.
What internal performance does this 8-port model offer?
20 Gbps switching capacity, 14.88 Mpps forwarding rate and 10 Gbps total non-blocking throughput, in store-and-forward mode. The MAC address table holds 8,000 entries and the buffer reaches 4.1 Mbit, as on the higher models in the series.
How can network access from a wall socket be restricted?
With 802.1X backed by RADIUS or TACACS+, which authenticates the computer before opening the port. On top of that come IP-MAC-VLAN-port binding, MAC address filtering, IP Source Guard, ARP inspection and 1,500 IPv4 and IPv6 access control rules.
What troubleshooting tools does the interface provide?
Port mirroring, ping, traceroute and copper testing to spot a damaged cable, syslog with alerts, CPU and memory monitoring, LLDP and LLDP-MED to discover neighbouring devices, and SNMP and RMON to feed a centralised monitoring system.
Is the switch new, and where can I view its documentation?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The manufacturer's document covers the entire GWN7800 series and lets you compare this 8-port model with the 16- and 24-port versions: PDF datasheet.
