Is the 250 W PoE budget enough to fill all 16 ports?
The 16 PoE+ ports share 250 W in total: with 16 devices connected, that works out at just over 15 W on average per device. Add up the power ratings before connecting everything; smart PoE adaptation then adjusts the power port by port to prevent outages.
Which ports on this switch do not provide PoE?
Of the 18 Gigabit RJ45 ports, 16 provide PoE+ 802.3af/at. The remaining 2 RJ45 ports and the 2 1G SFP ports power nothing: they are intended for uplinks to the router or the network core, with the SFP ports accepting 1G modules to reach another building over fibre.
How much UPS capacity should you allow for this switch?
Less than 15 W with no PoE load, and less than 255 W when the 16 PoE+ ports are fully loaded. It is this second figure that should be used to size the UPS, as it covers both the switch and all the devices it powers.
Does this 20-port switch need an external power adapter?
No: the power supply is built into the chassis, and the switch plugs straight into the mains at 100-240 V, 50/60 Hz. A single power cable is all it takes, with no external transformer to fit in the rack. It is rack-mounted, in a metal case.
Do you need to install software to manage the RG-ES220GS-P?
No: local web interface (eWeb), the Ruijie Reyee app and the Ruijie Cloud console, with zero-touch provisioning (SON) and online updates. VLANs, QoS, statistics and maintenance can be managed remotely.
What happens if someone creates a loop by plugging in two cables?
The switch detects the loop, isolates the offending port and raises an alarm, without the rest of the network going down. Port isolation and suppression of broadcast, multicast and unknown unicast storms complete this protection.
How can you spot a camera that has stopped responding without going on site?
The switch automatically recognises IP cameras and NVRs, raises an alarm for any that goes offline and lets you restart a single port remotely to reboot the device. That saves just as many site visits, which matters on a multi-site video surveillance installation.
How far from the switch can a camera be placed?
A long-range mode extends the copper link up to 250 m, with no repeater in between. It is designed for isolated cameras in a car park, a courtyard or a warehouse: combined with the 16 PoE+ ports, the switch powers and connects them without an equipment cabinet halfway along.
How many VLANs and MAC addresses does this switch handle?
Up to 16 VLANs 802.1Q and a table of 8,000 MAC addresses, with port-based VLANs, mirroring and static MAC addresses. Enough to separate cameras, guest Wi-Fi and workstations on the same device — the 16-VLAN limit is worth checking if your addressing plan is already highly segmented.
Is it fast enough for continuous video surveillance?
Its switching capacity reaches 40 Gbps at 29.76 Mpps, i.e. the full-duplex throughput of all ports at the same time: switching is therefore non-blocking. QoS limits the rate per interface and IP camera recognition makes it easier to integrate these streams into the network.
What reliability assurances does this Reyee switch offer?
Metal chassis, MTBF over 200,000 hours, CE and FCC certifications, EMC compliance with EN 55032 / EN 55035 / ETSI EN 300 386 and safety to EN 62638-1. Cables can be hot-unplugged on all ports, and the device operates between 0 and 40 °C at 10 to 90% humidity.
Is this RG-ES220GS-P switch new and under warranty?
