Frequently asked questions about this product
What PoE budget does the ES228GP offer, and across how many ports?
250 W shared across 24 PoE+ ports, up to 30 W each, under the 802.3af and 802.3at standards. Twenty cameras at 12 W fit within the budget; eight Wi-Fi access points at 30 W already use it up. Two additional RJ45 ports and two SFP slots complete the front panel.
Do cameras stay powered while the switch restarts?
Yes: Perpetual PoE keeps devices powered while the switch reboots, and Fast PoE restores power without waiting for the boot to finish. On a video surveillance network, no camera goes down during an update.
Does the 250 m extend mode come with a trade-off?
Yes: the speed drops to 10 Mbps on the ports concerned. The range goes from 100 to 250 m, for both data and power, but the throughput is reduced. The actual distance also depends on cable quality — perfect for an isolated camera, not for an uplink.
What happens if a camera connected to a port freezes?
It can be restarted remotely from the interface: the port cuts and then restores its PoE power, with no need to go on site. Port isolation also stops the cameras from seeing one another, which limits the damage if one of them is compromised.
How many VLANs can you create on this Easy Managed model?
A maximum of 32 VLAN groups, as 802.1Q tagged, port-based or MTU VLANs. This limit matters when you plan your addressing: this switch segments an SME or video surveillance network, not a campus with fifty virtual networks.
How is this switch managed?
Through the Omada SDN platform — cloud, web interface or app — with automatic device discovery, batch configuration and firmware upgrades, and zero-touch provisioning. The switch also works on its own, as plug-and-play.
How much electrical power should you allow for at full PoE load?
289.9 W at 220 V/50 Hz with 250 W of powered devices, i.e. nearly 989 BTU/h of heat to dissipate. The built-in power supply accepts 100 to 240 V at 4 A, and the power port has ±4 kV surge protection.
Does this switch have fans, and how deep is it?
Two fans cool it: it belongs in a rack or a wiring closet. On the other hand, its depth of only 180 mm, for 440 mm wide and 1U high, means it fits in a shallow cabinet — which is rare for a 250 W PoE chassis.
How does the switch respond to a cabling loop?
Automatic loop prevention isolates the faulty port before the network becomes saturated. At the same time, IGMP v1, v2 and v3 snooping avoids flooding all 26 ports with multicast streams from the cameras, and quality of service protects sensitive traffic.
What internal performance does this 28-port model deliver?
56 Gbps of switching capacity and 41.664 Mpps, with an 8,000-entry MAC address table and jumbo frames up to 15 KB. The stated mean time between failures reaches 228,544 hours at 25 °C.
Is the switch new, and where can I find its datasheet?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The manufacturer's document covers the ES228GP in detail, including its PoE features, extend mode and environmental conditions: datasheet (PDF).
Designed for SMEs and video surveillance: automatic IP camera recognition, loop prevention and remote port restart through Ruijie Cloud. Extension up to 250 m in camera mode.
•PoE+ (802.3af/at standard)
•Managed through Ruijie Cloud, a mobile app or a web interface
Aruba Instant On switch for small businesses: full L2+ managed from the mobile app, the cloud portal or a local web interface, with a more measured PoE budget for flexible deployment of Wi-Fi access points and IP cameras.
Managed access switch designed for SMEs and branch offices: powers workstations, Wi-Fi access points and IP cameras over Power over Ethernet, with centralised control from Aruba Central and automated deployment.
•Managed via Aruba Central (cloud or on-premise), web GUI, CLI and REST API
•PoE+ up to 30 W per port (IEEE 802.3af/at, class 4)
Fast PoE instantly powers cameras, Wi-Fi access points and IP phones over the network cable, with no break on restart. Four 10G links absorb traffic to the network core. Web, cloud app or command line control, built-in DoS/802.1X security.
Layer 2 Gigabit switch for SMEs, with PoE+ ports to power cameras and Wi-Fi access points, plus SFP fibre links. Silent rackable format, driven through UniFi Network.
Managed switch that keeps your PoE equipment powered even during a restart (perpetual PoE), for continuity of service on critical cameras or Wi-Fi access points. Configurable through the HUAWEI eKit App cloud or locally.
Covers a whole floor of cameras, Wi-Fi access points and IP phones on a single device, without multiplying power units. 10G links and a capacity of 176 Gbps absorb the combined traffic. VLANs, security and administration of enterprise equipment.
