Frequently asked questions about this product
Are all the ports on the 2920-48G-PoE+ powered?
Yes, all 48. Forty-four auto-sensing Gigabit PoE+ RJ45 ports, plus four dual-personality ports that are also PoE+, each compliant with 802.3at and able to deliver up to 30 W. Two expansion module slots come on top of that.
How much electrical power does this chassis require?
487 W maximum, including the power supplied to PoE devices. This is the figure to use when sizing the UPS and the circuit in the wiring closet: a 48-port PoE switch draws as much from the power supply as a small server.
How does this switch scale up to 10 Gigabit fibre?
Through its two module slots: you add the uplink ports you need after purchase, according to the fibre infrastructure actually in place. A separate slot is reserved for the stacking module.
How do you regain control of this switch when the network is down?
Three physical access points: a dedicated RJ-45 out-of-band management port, a dual-personality console (RJ-45 or USB micro-B) and a USB 1.1 port. The configuration therefore remains accessible when the production network stops responding.
What latency and performance does this chassis offer?
176 Gbps of switching capacity and 130.9 Mpps, with latency below 3.2 µs at both Gigabit and 10 Gigabit, and 9 µs at 100 Mbps — measured on 64-byte packets. The MAC address table holds 16,000 entries.
How much rack space does this switch take up?
44.25 × 33.6 × 4.39 cm and 5.7 kg: 1U high, but nearly 34 cm deep and fairly heavy. Check the usable depth of the rack and plan for rails — this is not a chassis you hold up with one hand.
What kind of management does this model offer?
A web interface for everyday configuration — VLANs, quality of service, port monitoring — backed by the out-of-band console for troubleshooting. Quality of service is available to prioritise voice and video.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. This is part number J9729A from the HP 2920 series, a fixed-port enterprise access switch that is expandable with modules and stackable with other units of the same series.
Covers a whole floor of cameras, Wi-Fi access points and IP phones on a single device, without multiplying power units. 10G links and a capacity of 176 Gbps absorb the combined traffic. VLANs, security and administration of enterprise equipment.
•Switching capacity 176 Gbps, 131 Mpps
•4 SFP+ 10 Gbps uplinks
•Fast PoE and Perpetual PoE (continuity during restarts)
Total PoE+ budget of 384 W to power a large number of cameras, Wi-Fi access points and IP phones. 104 Gbps switching capacity, driven from the Omada SDN cloud.
48 Gigabit ports, half of them PoE+ (ports 1 to 24), for mixed SME or campus deployments — simplified control from the Aruba Instant On app, with no subscription.
•24 of the 48 ports in PoE+ (802.3at), ports 1 to 24
Powers a whole floor over one cable with 10 Gbps uplinks to the network core: 370 W of PoE+ across the 48 Gigabit ports, layer 3 routing and centralised management from Aruba Central.
•PoE+ (802.3at) on all 48 ports, total budget 370 W
•Up to 30 W per port — Wi-Fi access points, IP cameras, IP phones
Managed access switch designed for SMEs and branch offices: powers workstations, Wi-Fi access points and IP cameras over Power over Ethernet, with centralised control from Aruba Central and automated deployment.
•Managed via Aruba Central (cloud or on-premise), web GUI, CLI and REST API
•PoE+ up to 30 W per port (IEEE 802.3af/at, class 4)
Fast PoE instantly powers cameras, Wi-Fi access points and IP phones over the network cable, with no break on restart. Four 10G links absorb traffic to the network core. Web, cloud app or command line control, built-in DoS/802.1X security.
High-density PoE+ access switch (802.3af/at standard) for IP cameras, Wi-Fi access points and VoIP phones. 176 Gbps switching capacity, L2+ functions and lifetime cloud management through Ruijie Cloud.
Managed switch that keeps your PoE equipment powered even during a restart (perpetual PoE), for continuity of service on critical cameras or Wi-Fi access points. Configurable through the HUAWEI eKit App cloud or locally.
Layer 2 managed switch for a small office powering a few Wi-Fi or IP devices over Power over Ethernet, with monitoring and scheduling via the Instant On mobile app.
