How many ports on the 1830 8G JL811A are PoE-powered?
Four out of eight: ports 1 to 4 deliver Class 4 PoE+, up to 30 W each, within a total budget of 65 W. The other four ports carry data only — keep this in mind when choosing which outlet an access point or camera goes on.
Can PoE power be scheduled by time of day?
Yes: PoE scheduling sets the day and time at which each port powers the connected device, and up to three port enable or disable schedules can run side by side. A Wi-Fi access point can thus switch itself off outside opening hours.
Does this PoE switch make any noise in a small office?
No, none at all: the 8-port models in the 1830 series have a fanless design, PoE included. Cooling is entirely passive, so it can sit on a desk or in a meeting room without any noise.
Which IP address should you use for the first connection?
The switch starts up as a DHCP client and takes the address assigned by the router. If there is no DHCP server on the link, it falls back to the static address 192.168.1.1: configure your laptop in the same subnet to open the local web interface.
What management features does this small model offer?
802.1Q VLANs, port-based access control, LACP link aggregation, STP and RSTP spanning tree against loops, IGMP snooping and RADIUS or 802.1X authentication. Everything is managed from the Instant On mobile app, the cloud portal or the web interface.
Do you need a subscription to manage this switch?
No: all features are included in the price of the hardware, with no licence or subscription fees. The local web interface can still be used with no Internet access at all, so you can configure the switch before connecting it to the network.
Does this switch give priority to voice traffic?
Yes: quality of service recognises packets marked with DSCP or IEEE 802.1p — VoIP and video first — and puts them ahead of the rest of the traffic. A dedicated management VLAN also restricts access to the interface to IT staff workstations.
