Frequently asked questions about this product
Are all the ports on the 2920-24G-PoE+ powered?
Yes, all 24. Twenty auto-sensing Gigabit PoE+ RJ45 ports, plus four dual-personality ports that are also PoE+, each compliant with the 802.3at standard and able to deliver up to 30 W. On top of these come two expansion module slots.
How can this switch be upgraded to 10 Gigabit fibre?
Through its two module slots: you add 1GbE SFP, 10GbE SFP+ or 10GBASE-T ports as needed. The uplink can therefore be chosen after purchase, according to the fibre infrastructure actually in place.
Can several 2920 switches be stacked and managed together?
Yes, up to four chassis, using the two-port stacking module, which reaches 40 Gbps per port. The stack then appears as a single virtual device, in a ring or chain topology.
Can this switch route between several subnets?
Yes, at Layer 3: static routing and RIP v1 and v2, with 256 static routes and 2,048 RIP routes. Inter-VLAN traffic stays within the switch instead of going up to the site's router, which lightens the load on the uplink.
How many VLANs can this switch carry at once?
256 active VLANs, with IDs taken from the full 802.1Q range of 4,094 values. The GVRP protocol learns and assigns VLANs dynamically, and RPVST+ builds one spanning tree per VLAN to make better use of redundant links.
How can I regain control of this switch outside the network?
Three physical ways in: a dedicated RJ-45 out-of-band management port, a dual-personality console (RJ-45 or USB micro-B) and a USB 1.1 port. The configuration therefore stays accessible even when the production network is down.
What power supply does this PoE switch have?
An X332 575 W modular power supply, housed in the single slot provided for it and supplied with the switch. It is 80 PLUS Silver certified, a mark of efficiency for equipment that stays on around the clock.
What latency and performance does this chassis claim?
128 Gbps switching capacity and 95.2 Mpps, with latency below 3.3 µs at both Gigabit and 10 Gigabit, and 9 µs at 100 Mbps. The packet buffer reaches 11.25 MB, including 4.5 MB ingress and 6.75 MB dynamic egress.
How much rack space does this switch take up?
44.25 × 33.6 × 4.4 cm and 5.46 kg: 1U high, but nearly 34 cm deep and fairly heavy — check the usable depth of the rack and plan for rails or a second pair of hands for mounting.
What happens when an IP phone is plugged into a port?
The switch can automatically assign its VLAN and class of service, based on a locally configured profile. The port therefore configures itself for a phone or an access point, which avoids input errors during a rollout.
Is the switch new, and where can I view its datasheet?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The manufacturer's document details the 2920 series, its expansion modules, stacking and routing features: datasheet (PDF).
