Frequently asked questions about this product

Can this switch accommodate servers at 1 GbE?
Yes: the 28 SFP+ ports support 1 GbE as well as 10 GbE, so several generations of servers can coexist on the same chassis. The two QSFP28 ports, for their part, handle 10, 25, 40, 50 and 100 GbE.
What is the maximum number of 10 GbE links you can get?
Thirty-six: the 28 existing SFP+ ports, plus 8 links taken from the two 100 GbE ports using breakout cables. This is how you increase density without adding a second chassis to the rack.
Which operating system does this switch use?
The one you choose: the open ONIE environment accepts Dell SmartFabric OS10 or a third-party network operating system. OS10 provides a full Layer 2 and Layer 3 stack — VLANs, OSPF, BGP, policy-based routing, QoS and ACLs, over IPv4 as well as IPv6.
How does this switch ensure service continuity?
Through redundancy: two power supplies and four fan modules, all hot-swappable. A power supply or fan failure can therefore be fixed without cutting off traffic in the rack.
What does this switch's cut-through mode offer?
Very low latency: a frame starts being retransmitted before it has been fully received, unlike the store-and-forward mode of access switches. The non-blocking fabric reaches 960 Gbps with 720 Mpps.
Is this switch suitable for a converged storage and data network?
Yes: Data Center Bridging is supported — Priority-based Flow Control PFC (802.1Qbb), ETS (802.1Qaz) and DCBX —, designed to carry storage traffic without loss over the same network as application data.
What table capacity does this switch offer?
272,000 MAC addresses in Scaled L2 mode, 200,000 IPv4 routes and 130,000 IPv6 routes, a 200,000-entry ARP table, a 12 MB packet buffer and 4 GB of CPU memory. Orders of magnitude specific to the data centre.
How much rack space and power should be planned for?
43.1 cm wide, 45.7 cm deep and 4.3 cm high, weighing 8.92 kg: a deep 1U chassis, intended for a server room rack. Allow 160 W in typical use, 260 W at most, between 0 and 40 °C.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
