What is the difference between the 40 PoE+ ports and the 8 PoE++ ports?
The available power: the 40 PoE+ ports deliver up to 32 W, the 8 PoE++ ports up to 64 W each, in line with the 802.3bt standard. Reserve those eight for power-hungry devices — Wi-Fi 6E access points, motorised cameras with heaters, digital signage displays powered over the network.
Is the 600 W budget enough to power all 48 ports?
No, it is a shared budget: 600 W spread across all the ports. Forty access points at 15 W already draw 600. The calculation is based on the actual total of the devices, never on the number of ports multiplied by their maximum power.
What happens if mains power is cut?
The switch accepts a backup DC power supply: a DC source takes over from the mains, keeping the network and the PoE devices running. That is rare in this range and decisive on a video surveillance installation.
Can this switch route between VLANs?
Yes, it is a Layer 3 model: inter-VLAN routing, a DHCP server and DSCP quality of service are built in. Traffic between two segmented networks stays inside the switch instead of going up to the router, which relieves the uplink of an entire site.
How many VLANs can be configured on this model?
Up to 1,000 VLANs, with a 16,000-entry MAC address table and a 4 MB packet buffer. Enough to segment an entire building finely — workstations, telephony, cameras, guests — without coming close to the switch's limits.
What uplinks does this switch offer?
Four 10G/1G SFP+ slots: the link to the network core runs at 10 Gigabit over fibre, or at Gigabit with a 1G module. Switching capacity reaches 176 Gbps, with 88 Gbps non-blocking throughput and 131 Mpps.
Do you need a UniFi controller to run this switch?
Yes: configuration is done through the UniFi Network application, hosted on a UniFi console, a local server or the Ubiquiti cloud. Plan for it before installation. A 1.3-inch touchscreen on the front panel shows the switch's status without any software.
What rack depth does this 48-port chassis need?
442 × 400 × 44 mm: 1U high, but 40 cm deep — a narrow wall-mount cabinet will not do. It weighs 6.2 kg without the brackets, in an SGCC steel case, and operates from -5 to 40 °C.
How is voice and video traffic handled on this model?
Through DSCP quality of service and AV Pro profiles dedicated to audio and video streams, complemented by IGMP snooping, which sends multicast only to the ports concerned. LACP aggregation spreads the load in parallel across several uplinks.
How can network access be restricted across 48 outlets?
With 802.1X authentication: an unknown workstation plugged into an outlet stays off the network until it has been validated by the authentication server. VLAN segmentation and Layer 3 routing then let you partition what each group can reach.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The chassis is CE, FCC, IC and Anatel certified, and its DC power redundancy offers a level of security that is rare for an access switch of this density.
