What do the 2.5 Gbps ports on the GWN7821P bring?
The eight RJ45 ports negotiate up to 2.5 Gbps, beyond Gigabit: a Wi-Fi 6E or 7 access point is no longer held back by its wired link, and a multi-gigabit NAS can finally use its full throughput. The gain only appears if the device at the other end also runs at 2.5 Gbps.
What is the maximum power this switch can supply to a port?
60 W per port with PoE++ (802.3bt), for a total budget of 240 W. That is what makes it possible to power a heated motorised camera or a power-hungry Wi-Fi 6E access point, where a standard PoE+ switch tops out at 30 W.
Does this switch support dynamic routing?
Static routing is available: 32 IPv4 routes and 32 IPv6 routes. Dynamic routing — RIP, RIPng, OSPF, OSPFv3, BGP, IS-IS — and policy-based routing are listed as “pending” by the manufacturer: do not build an architecture on them today.
How many VLANs, and of what types, does this switch support?
4,000 VLANs, which can be assigned by port, by 802.1Q tagging, by MAC address or by protocol, with voice VLAN — automatic, OUI tagged or untagged — and private VLAN. Sixteen VLAN virtual interfaces are available, with an MTU of 9,216 bytes.
What are the two SFP+ slots for?
They are the 10 Gbps uplinks: enough to carry eight 2.5 Gbps ports up to the network core without creating a bottleneck. Switching capacity reaches 80 Gbps at 59.5 Mpps, with a 12 MB packet buffer.
Can several GWN7821P units be stacked?
Yes, up to four units: the stack is managed from a single interface and provides redundancy between the devices. Useful when a site needs more than eight multi-gigabit ports without moving up to a 24-port chassis.
How is this Layer 3 switch managed?
Locally through the web interface, CLI or SNMP, and remotely via GWN.Cloud or GWN Manager, the platform installed on your own server. All three options coexist, with no subscription or additional licence.
What protection does this switch offer against internal attacks?
802.1X and MAC-based authentication, RADIUS and TACACS+, port isolation, port security with sticky MAC, MAC address filtering, IP Source Guard and DHCP snooping. Surge protection reaches ±6 kV.
How many links can be aggregated on this model?
Thirty-two aggregation groups, with STP, RSTP and MSTP spanning tree for redundant topologies. The MAC address table holds 16,000 entries, whether static, dynamic or filtering.
Is voice and video traffic given priority?
Yes: advanced quality of service prioritises traffic, the voice VLAN isolates telephony — including by automatically recognising the device's manufacturer — and IGMP and MLD snooping only send multicast to the ports that request it.
