What PoE budget does the GWN7811P offer across its 8 ports?
120 W in total, with a maximum of 30 W per port, to the 802.3af and 802.3at standards. Four Wi-Fi access points drawing 30 W each therefore use up the entire budget. Priority can be set port by port, so critical devices stay powered when the budget runs short.
Does this switch support dynamic routing?
Yes: RIP, RIPng, OSPF, OSPFv3 and BGP, on top of static routing — 32 IPv4 routes and 32 IPv6 routes — and policy-based routing. It is a true Layer 3 switch, able to handle routed network segmentation for an SME.
What internal performance does this 10-port model claim?
56 Gbps switching capacity, 41.644 Mpps and 28 Gbps non-blocking throughput, with latency below 4 µs. The packet buffer reaches 12 MB and the MAC address table 16,000 entries.
How many VLANs, and of which types, does this switch support?
4,000 VLANs: port-based, 802.1Q tagged, MAC-based or protocol-based, with QinQ, private VLAN and voice VLAN — including automatic recognition of the device's manufacturer. Sixteen VLAN virtual interfaces accept an MTU of 9,216 bytes.
Can several GWN7811P units be stacked?
Yes, up to four units: the stack becomes a single virtual device, which increases the port count and capacity while creating redundancy between members. Link aggregation across units also makes the connections more reliable.
What electrical protection does this switch offer?
±6 kV in common and differential mode on the power supply, ±4 kV in common mode on the network ports and ±12 kV contact electrostatic discharge immunity. On top of this come overcurrent, overvoltage and overheating protection.
What happens if the firmware becomes corrupted at start-up?
The switch restarts from its backup copy: two flash memory chips store the bootloader, and the system files are duplicated too. This is a safeguard rarely found in this class of equipment, and it saves a site visit for a switch that will not boot.
What diagnostic tools does the interface provide?
Ping, traceroute, copper cable test, local and remote mirroring (SPAN and RSPAN), monitoring of the processor, memory, fan and power supply, syslog, SNMP v1, v2c and v3, RMON, LLDP and LLDP-MED.
What is in the box, and how is the switch mounted?
The switch, a 1.2 m power cord, a 25 cm grounding cable, four rubber feet, a strain-relief cord, eight screws, the installation guide and two rack-mount kits. The console cable and the external redundant power supply are optional.
How is this switch managed day to day?
Through the local web interface, the command line — console, Telnet or SSH — and SNMP. Remotely, it can be managed from GWN Manager, GDMS Networking or a GWN series router, with upgrades over FTPS, TFTP, HTTP or HTTPS.
