Shure Super 55 — Vintage-Style Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone

Chrome-plated with light blue trim, it catches the eye as much as it holds its place: the tight front pickup rejects sound from the sides and pushes back feedback. The capsule is shock-mounted, free of handling noise.

  • Supercardioid pattern: picks up the voice in front, rejects the sides
  • High gain before feedback
  • Dynamic capsule on a shock mount, handling noise reduced
  • Frequency response tuned for singing and speech
  • Self-tightening articulated mount, tilting 45° forward and 80° back
  • Chrome-plated body with light blue trim
  • 5/8 to 3/8 inch thread adapter included
  • Padded zipped pouch included

Non-contractual photos

The visuals on this page are supplied by the manufacturer. They are frequently produced for a whole range — not for the exact model you are viewing: what you see in the photo is never a promise of what is included.

No exchange, return or cancellation will be accepted on the grounds that something seen in a photo (accessory, port, colour, keyboard layout, packaging…) is not found on the delivered product. Only the specifications written on the page are binding for the order.

What the image does not guarantee:

  • Staging : microphone stand, boom arm, pop filter, mounts and ambient speakers photographed are not included unless stated.
  • Quantity : the number of speakers or channels visible in the image does not necessarily match the set sold.
  • Cables and tips : the cables, adapters, ear tips and cases supplied are those listed in the specifications.
  • Specifications : Bluetooth, jack socket, USB, noise cancellation and battery life cannot be read from a photo.
  • Colour : one image often serves several colours, and the shade you see depends on studio lighting as much as on your screen settings; the colour sold is the one in the title and the specifications.
  • Props and accessories : the items shown around the product (cables, stands, decorative objects, content displayed on screen) are not included unless explicitly stated.
  • Packaging : boxes, labels and bundles change with the manufacturer's revisions: the packaging delivered may differ from the one in the photo.

What is binding: the product title, this page's technical specifications, the description and, when provided, the manufacturer's PDF datasheet available in the downloads.

Frequently asked questions about this product

What difference does the supercardioid polar pattern of the Shure Super 55 make?
It picks up the voice from the front and rejects sound coming from the sides. On stage, this means less amp spill into the mic and high gain before feedback: you can push the level further before the squeal appears.
Does the Super 55 pick up handling noise?
It is reduced: the dynamic capsule is mounted on a shock-mount suspension, which keeps the mic quiet when you touch it or tilt it mid-performance.
Can the Shure Super 55 be tilted on its stand?
Yes: its self-locking swivel mount allows a tilt of 45° forward and 80° backward. The setting holds without coming loose during the concert.
What is in the Shure Super 55 box?
The mic, a 5/8 to 3/8-inch thread adapter — the one that lets you screw it onto a European stand — and a padded zippered pouch for transport.
What uses is the Super 55 designed for?
For vocals above all, then stage performances and speeches, as well as television broadcasts and recordings that call for a mic with a retro look. Its frequency response is optimised for singing and speech.
What is the difference between the Super 55 and the 55SH Series II?
Two differences, given by the manufacturer: the Super 55 has a higher-quality supercardioid capsule, and it features the light blue stripes on its chrome body.
Which technology does the Super 55 inherit?
That of Shure's BETA 58A vocal mic. This is what gives it a sound optimised for a natural voice and the ability to carry the voice as far as the staging requires.
Is this Shure Super 55 microphone new and under warranty?
Yes, it is a new Shure product, reference SUPER55, with a chrome body with light blue accents and a die-cast capsule. The invoice serves as the warranty document, for a period of 1 year.
