Frequently asked questions about this product

Can the TL-SG1048 be configured?
No: it is an unmanaged switch, with no interface. It starts switching as soon as it is plugged in, with MAC address auto-learning and auto MDI/MDIX on every port. To segment 48 ports into VLANs, you need a managed model.
Does this 48-port chassis have fans?
Yes, two fans: at this density, passive cooling is no longer enough. Its place is therefore in a rack or an equipment room. The steel case measures 440 × 220 × 44 mm, i.e. 1U in 19-inch format.
What internal performance does this 48-port model offer?
96 Gbps switching capacity, in a non-blocking architecture, with an 8,000-entry MAC address table and 16 MB of buffer memory. Jumbo frames go up to 10 KB, useful for large transfers between workstations and a server.
How is this switch powered?
By a built-in power supply accepting 100 to 240 V at 50/60 Hz: a simple power cord is all it takes, with no external adapter. Green technology adjusts power consumption according to link status and the length of the connected cables.
How does the switch prevent traffic congestion?
With 802.3x flow control in full duplex and backpressure in half duplex: the switch asks the sender to slow down rather than dropping packets. That is what keeps transmission reliable when all 48 ports are working at once.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. This is the TP-Link TL-SG1048, an unmanaged 48-port Gigabit rackmount switch, designed for dense workgroups and departments.
