What PoE budget does the TL-SG3428MP offer across its 24 ports?
384 W in total, 30 W maximum per port, under the 802.3af and 802.3at standards. Twenty-four 12 W cameras draw less than 300 W and fit comfortably; a dozen power-hungry Wi-Fi access points, on the other hand, are enough to exhaust the budget.
Can this switch route between VLANs?
Yes, with Layer 2+ static routing: up to 48 IPv4 and IPv6 static routes, across 16 IP interfaces. Each 802.1Q VLAN gets its own interface, and the switch forwards traffic from one to another without sending internal traffic all the way up to the firewall.
How does the switch protect the network from a cabling loop?
With STP 802.1d, RSTP 802.1w and MSTP 802.1s, backed by per-port or per-VLAN loop detection and the full set of STP security features: BPDU filter and BPDU protect, root protect, Loop Protect. Storm control caps broadcast bursts.
Is there console access on this model?
Yes, the JetStream range provides an RJ45 console port and a micro-USB console port, in addition to the web interface, CLI, SNMP v1, v2c and v3, and RMON. Dual image and dual configuration let you roll back if an update goes wrong.
Is an Omada controller needed to run this switch?
No, the local web interface is enough. The Omada controller — hardware, software or cloud — adds centralised management of the whole fleet from a single interface, the network topology, alerts for abnormal events and role assignment per administrator.
How can the status of inserted optical modules be monitored?
With the DDM function, which displays the status of each SFP module and triggers alarms on thresholds for temperature, voltage, bias current and transmit or receive power. A weakening fibre is spotted before it cuts out.
How can an unknown computer be prevented from using a network socket?
With 802.1X backed by a RADIUS or TACACS+ server, complemented by IP-MAC-Port binding, port security and Layer 2 to 4 access control lists filtering on MAC address, IP address, TCP or UDP port and even VLAN ID.
Is voice traffic given priority on this switch?
Yes: Layer 2 to 4 quality of service classifies traffic by IP or MAC address and by TCP or UDP port number, and the voice VLAN isolates phones on their own network. Voice and video then go ahead of file transfers.
