What is in the box of the TL-WA1201?
Yes, the box contains both a power adapter and a PoE injector, with a network cable and the quick start guide. You can therefore choose between a nearby socket or powering it over the network cable, at 12 V / 1.5 A.
Does the TL-WA1201 broadcast on the 6 GHz band?
No, it is dual-band: 867 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, in Wi-Fi 5. The 6 GHz band belongs to Wi-Fi 6E, a more recent generation; a compatible device will connect here on the 5 GHz band.
Are the TL-WA1201's antennas external?
Yes, it has four external antennas. With MU-MIMO and beamforming, they serve several devices in parallel rather than one after the other — useful in a home or a small office where walls weaken the signal.
Do you need a controller to configure the TL-WA1201?
No, it is configured from a web interface, with no controller or app required. It also has a built-in DHCP server, a DHCP client and IPv4/IPv6 dual stack, which lets it run on its own on a small network.
Can you create several Wi-Fi networks on the TL-WA1201?
Yes, it supports multiple SSIDs and multicast VLAN segmentation, with an access control list. A guest network can thus be kept separate from the main network on the same access point.
What encryption does the TL-WA1201 support?
WPA2 and WPA2-PSK, in addition to the legacy WPA and WEP modes — WPA2 being the one to choose. A WPS button also lets you pair a device without typing in the key.
Where can the TL-WA1201 be placed?
It is designed for desktop placement or wall mounting, indoors, between 0 and 40 °C. The white enclosure measures 225 × 145.5 × 37 mm and has an on/off button, which few access points offer.
Is the TL-WA1201's network port Gigabit?
Yes, its single port supports 10/100/1000 Mbps and is also used for PoE power. With a theoretical radio throughput of 867 Mbps on the 5 GHz band, the port is therefore not the limiting factor.
Can the TL-WA1201 extend an existing network wirelessly?
Yes, it supports WDS, the wireless distribution system, which relays a network from one access point to another wirelessly rather than by cable. WMM quality of service is also supported.
Is the equipment new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document for 1 year. The access point comes complete — power adapter, PoE injector, network cable — ready to plug in with no extra purchase.
