Frequently asked questions about this product

What speeds are quoted for this 500 GB FURY Renegade?
7,300 MB/s read and 3,900 MB/s write. Read speed is on a par with the whole range; write speed, however, rises to 6,000 MB/s on the 1 TB and 7,000 on the 2 and 4 TB models. The difference therefore shows when copying and installing, not when loading what is already on the drive.
How thick is the drive with its heatsink?
Only 2.2 mm: this is the low-profile aluminium-graphene heat spreader, not the tall heatsink from the same range. It therefore fits under a graphics card, under a motherboard's M.2 shield or in a gaming laptop, where a 10.5 mm heatsink will not fit.
What random IOPS does it deliver at this capacity?
450,000 read and 900,000 write random 4K IOPS. In this range, small-access performance increases with capacity: the 1 TB version doubles random read, as each step up uses more memory chips in parallel.
What write endurance does this 500 GB model offer?
500 TB, or a thousand full drive writes. Relative to its size, this is the same proportion as on the higher capacities in the range. On a gaming PC, most of the data written comes from installations and updates.
Can it be installed in a PlayStation 5?
Yes, the FURY Renegade is stated to be PS5 compatible. This model has the low-profile heat spreader; the range also comes with a taller heatsink, which Kingston says adds an extra layer of heat dissipation when gaming gets intense.
Which controller and memory does this SSD use?
A Phison E18 controller, 3D TLC memory and a dedicated DRAM cache, on a PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe interface. This is the technical platform shared by the entire FURY Renegade range: what sets the capacities apart is their write speed and IOPS.
Is the drive new and under warranty?
It is new and your invoice serves as the warranty document, with technical support from the manufacturer. Its part number is SFYRS/500G — without the final K, which at Kingston denotes the version fitted with the tall heatsink.
