Frequently asked questions about this product

What difference does the ZyXEL MG-108's 2.5 Gbps make on existing cabling?
It multiplies the speed of a Gigabit port by 2.5 without changing the cables: all eight ports run at 2.5 Gbps. It is the most direct upgrade when a recent Wi-Fi access point or network storage device already exceeds Gigabit.
Can the MG-108 be configured?
No: it is an unmanaged, plug-and-play model. No VLANs, no web interface, no management IP address: you plug it in and it switches at the highest speed each device accepts.
Does this switch power devices over PoE?
No, none of its eight ports supplies power. A multi-Gigabit Wi-Fi access point connected to this switch therefore needs its own power adapter, or a PoE injector inserted in the link.
Can the MG-108 be rack-mounted?
No: it is not rack-mountable. The unit measures 240 × 106 × 26 mm and weighs 640 g; it sits on a desk, a shelf or at the back of a cabinet, next to the patch point.
How much power does this switch add?
12.24 W for eight 2.5 Gbps ports. That is little given the speed on offer: the switch can stay on permanently without weighing on your electricity bill or on a UPS's runtime.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. This is the ZyXEL MG-108, an eight-port multi-Gigabit switch from the same family as the five-port MG-105.
