Frequently asked questions about this product

Are the 24 ports of the Catalyst 2960-24LT-L Gigabit?
No: they are 10/100 Mbps. Only the two dual-purpose SFP ports go faster. This is the point to check before connecting recent workstations or cameras: 100 Mbps remains the ceiling on the access ports.
What are this switch's two dual-purpose ports?
Two ports that can be used as copper or SFP fibre, never both at once: they serve as uplinks to the network core, over fibre as soon as the distance exceeds the reach of copper.
How is this switch managed remotely?
Through SNMP v1, v2c and v3, Telnet and HTTP, with RMON groups 1, 2, 3 and 9 for reporting statistics. Access is protected by SSL, and authentication relies on RADIUS, TACACS+ or SSH2.
Which switching standards does this model support?
The Layer 2 essentials: 802.1Q VLANs, 802.1D Spanning Tree, 802.1w RSTP and 802.1s MSTP, 802.3ad link aggregation, 802.3x flow control, 802.1p prioritisation and 802.1X port-based access control.
What does this switch's LAN Lite software image mean?
It is the entry-level version of the Cisco software supplied with this model: it covers Layer 2 switching, VLANs and quality of service, but not the advanced routing features of the higher images. The switch remains a Layer 2 device.
How much rack space does this switch take up?
445 × 332 × 44 mm and 5.4 kg: 1U high, but 33 cm deep and fairly heavy. Check the usable depth of the rack before mounting it, and use rails rather than mounting it by the front brackets alone.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
