Why does this model line up 24 SFP slots?
Because it is designed for all-fibre networks: each slot takes an optical module and serves a remote room or building, where copper stops at 100 metres. Eight of these ports are combo ports and accept either an SFP module or an RJ45 cable.
Can several of these switches be stacked?
Yes, with iStack: several chassis form a single logical switch, with redundancy between members and link aggregation across devices. You increase ports, bandwidth and processing capacity simply by adding a member to the stack.
How do you isolate clients on the same VLAN?
With the MUX VLAN feature: a principal VLAN and subordinate VLANs, which are either group or separate VLANs. Ports in a group VLAN communicate with each other, ports in a separate VLAN cannot see one another — while all of them can communicate with the principal VLAN. This is the answer for hotels and residential buildings.
What happens if the uplink goes down?
The Smart Link feature handles failover: the switch connects to several aggregation devices over separate links and switches to the backup link in the event of a failure. VLAN-based Spanning Tree (VBST) completes the set-up.
How are connected devices authenticated?
By 802.1X per port, by MAC address or in combined mode, with dynamic application of user policies — VLAN, quality of service and access control lists. An unknown computer is therefore refused access, or automatically placed in a restricted VLAN.
How much space does this chassis take up, and how much power does it draw?
442 × 220 × 43.6 mm, i.e. 1U, with a maximum power consumption of 41.7 W — modest for 24 fibre links. Cooling is active, with fan speed control, and the switch withstands -5 to +50 °C in continuous operation.
What internal performance does this switch claim?
128 Gbps of switching capacity and a 16,000-entry MAC address table, with 4 SFP+ uplinks at 10 Gbps. This sizing lets the 24 Gigabit fibre links and the 10 Gigabit uplinks work together.
How is this switch managed day to day?
Through the HUAWEI eKit app, the web interface, the command line or SNMP. VLANs, quality of service, 802.1X authentication and DHCP snooping can be configured from any of these channels.
