Frequently asked questions about this product

Does this SSD have a dedicated cache memory chip?
No, the VP4300 Lite uses Viper Gaming's DRAM-less design: it relies on the Host Memory Buffer, i.e. a small portion of the PC's RAM, rather than an on-board chip. This is what makes for a slim, power-efficient module without sacrificing speed.
What speed does it reach once installed in a PlayStation 5?
6,100 MB/s sequential read on PS5, compared with 7,400 MB/s on PC. Patriot quotes the two figures separately, as the console sets its own pace: the PS5 figure is the one to go by if the expansion is intended for the console.
What speeds does the VP4300 Lite deliver in its 1 TB version?
7,400 MB/s read and 6,400 MB/s write. This is the level of the 1 TB and 2 TB versions; the 500 GB drops to 7,000/4,000 MB/s and the 4 TB to 7,400/6,000 on writes. This capacity is therefore the smallest to deliver the range's full performance.
How does this SSD avoid slowing down in the middle of a gaming session?
With a built-in thermal sensor that controls throttling, combined with a special-edition ultra-thin graphene heatsink. The drive adjusts its speed to its actual temperature rather than suffering from overheating, with the aim of steady performance throughout a long session.
How many terabytes can the 1 TB version write?
800 TB, or 800 complete fills of the drive. The figures for the whole range are published: 400 TB on the 500 GB, 1,600 TB on the 2 TB and 2,000 TB on the 4 TB. The quoted mean time between failures is 1,800,000 hours.
What does NVMe 2.0 support bring?
It is the latest revision of the protocol, on a PCIe Gen4 x4 interface. Here it comes with support for the Toggle 5 and ONFi 5 flash modes, which double the memory's throughput to up to 2,400 MT/s — this is what feeds the advertised 7,400 MB/s read speed.
Which operating systems is this SSD supported on?
Windows 7, 8.0, 8.1, 10 and 11, on Intel and AMD platforms alike. On Windows 7 and 8.0, a driver may be needed, depending on the configuration, before the drive is recognised — worth anticipating if you intend to boot straight from it on an older machine.
What are the module's dimensions, heatsink included?
8 cm long, 2.2 cm wide and 3.8 mm thick, weighing 9 g. This is the standard M.2 2280 format, with the graphene heatsink already fitted. Check the clearance under your motherboard's M.2 cover, which will sometimes need to be removed to avoid stacking two heatsinks.
Is the drive new and under warranty?
It is new and your invoice serves as the warranty document. It carries the part number VP4300L1TBM28H, to be quoted for any return. The full datasheet gives the details of the four capacities in the range.
