What do the 2.5 Gbps ports of the Enterprise 8 PoE bring?
The eight RJ45 ports negotiate 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps or 100 Mbps and are all PoE+: a Wi-Fi 6 or 6E access point is no longer held back by its wired link, while being powered over the same cable. The gain requires a device that also runs at 2.5 Gbps.
What PoE budget does this compact switch offer?
120 W in total, with up to 32 W per port in PoE+. Four Wi-Fi 6E access points at 30 W therefore use up most of the budget: with eight powered ports, it is the budget that sets the limit, not the number of ports.
Can this switch route between VLANs?
Yes, it is a Layer 3 model: inter-VLAN routing, static routing and a DHCP server for local networks. The IP address table accepts 512 IPv4 routes and 512 ARP entries — enough to turn a desktop unit into the head of a small segmented network.
What are the two SFP+ ports on this model for?
They are the 10G or 1G uplinks: they stop eight 2.5 Gbps ports from being squeezed through a single output. Switching capacity reaches 80 Gbps, with 40 Gbps non-blocking throughput and 60 Mpps.
How many VLANs can be configured on this switch?
Up to 1,000 VLANs, with a 16,000-entry MAC address table and a voice VLAN dedicated to telephony. Access control lists, on the other hand, remain limited: 12 IPv4 rules and 10 MAC rules.
Do you need a UniFi controller to run this switch?
Yes: configuration is done through the UniFi Network application, hosted on a UniFi console, a local server or the Ubiquiti cloud — plan for it before installation. A 1.3-inch touchscreen on the front panel shows the switch's status without any software.
How much power and how much space should I plan for?
150 W at most, PoE included, compared with 30 W with no powered devices, from a universal 100-240 V internal power supply. The polycarbonate case measures 200 × 248 × 44 mm and weighs 2.4 kg: it is a desktop format, rack-mountable with the appropriate brackets.
What Layer 2 protections does this switch apply?
802.1X access control, MAC-based access lists with device isolation, MAC address blocking, DHCP snooping, port isolation, storm control, egress rate limiting and loop protection — all complemented by STP and RSTP.
Is this switch suitable for a room without air conditioning?
It operates from -5 to 45 °C, with 10 to 90 % humidity, non-condensing, and ±16 kV air discharge ESD protection. Its temperature margin is wider than on most desktop switches, and it is NDAA compliant.
