Frequently asked questions about this product
How much PoE budget is actually available to power my devices?
It depends on how you power it: 202 W with the included 210 W AC adapter, but only 42 W through the PoE++ input, 52 W with a 60 W AC adapter and 16 W with PoE+ input. This budget is shared across the 7 PoE+ ports: to run them at full load, it is the 210 W adapter that you need to plug in.
Is the 210 W power adapter supplied with the switch?
Yes, the 210 W external AC/DC adapter is included. Allow room for it: it weighs 770 g on its own, compared with 320 g for the switch. It is what unlocks the 202 W PoE budget; the PoE++ input on the 8th port remains the alternative when there is no power outlet nearby.
How many Wi-Fi access points or cameras can I power from it?
Seven at most: 7 PoE+ 802.3at ports delivering up to 30 W each, the 8th port being the PoE++ input. The overall 202 W budget is the real limit — seven devices each drawing 30 W would require 210, so the load has to be spread. All ports are Gigabit 10/100/1000 Mbps, PoE or not.
How much does the switch itself consume, excluding the power supplied to devices?
8 W with its adapter and 9 W when powered over PoE, not counting the power passed on to devices. Total consumption tops out at 210 W, with the adapter connected and the PoE ports loaded, for a heat dissipation excluding PoE output of 27.3 to 30.7 BTU/h.
Do you need a UniFi controller to configure this switch?
Management is done through UniFi Network, version 8.0.7 or later: have a UniFi console or an up-to-date instance ready before installation. There you will find the Layer 2 features — VLANs, STP/RSTP, port isolation and port mirroring, storm control. Management access is via Ethernet.
Can I isolate a guest network or my cameras on this switch?
Yes. It supports 256 VLANs and port isolation, enough to separate cameras, Wi-Fi access points and workstations on the same unit. On top of that come port mirroring for analysis, multicast and broadcast rate limiting, and storm control. Egress rate limiting also lets you throttle a specific port.
Can it handle the load if all ports are working at the same time?
Yes. Non-blocking throughput is 8 Gbps, i.e. a simultaneous gigabit on each of the 8 ports, for a switching capacity of 16 Gbps and a forwarding rate of 12 Mpps. It also has a 4,000-entry MAC table, jumbo frames and flow control.
Can it be installed in a non-air-conditioned technical room?
Its operating range is -20 to 60 °C with the 210 W AC adapter, and goes down to -30 °C when powered through the PoE++ input, at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity. A non-air-conditioned network rack therefore stays within the stated range, even in the height of summer.
Can it be mounted on a wall rather than placed on a desk?
Three mounting options are provided: desktop, wall or magnetic, in a very compact format of 203 × 76 × 33 mm and 320 g. The matching wall mount weighs 45 g, and the housing is made of polycarbonate. Make sure there is a power outlet nearby if you plan to use the 210 W adapter rather than the PoE++ input.
Is this switch suitable for a sensitive professional installation?
It is NDAA compliant and CE, FCC, IC and Anatel certified. On the network side, STP/RSTP and loop protection provide redundancy without the risk of a broadcast storm. The Layer 2 features — 256 VLANs, port isolation and port mirroring — let you segment traffic and trace an incident.
Is the Switch Ultra 210W new and under warranty?
Yes: the USW-Ultra-210W is new and sealed in its original packaging, supplied with its invoice. The invoice serves as the warranty document, for 1 year. Part number USW-Ultra-210W-EU, 210 W AC adapter included.
