Frequently asked questions about this product

Does the 9SX Gen2 5000 really deliver 5000 W?
Yes: its power factor is 1, so the full 5000 VA is available in watts. On a UPS rated at 0.8, only 4000 would remain — one server fewer in the rack for the same footprint.
Can the 9SX batteries be replaced without shutting down the servers?
Yes: the internal batteries are hot-swappable, with no power interruption. The UPS holds fifteen of them, 12 V / 5 Ah, and automatically recognises the external battery modules added to extend its runtime.
How is the 9SX5KIRT3UG2 connected to the installation?
On a terminal block, at the input and the output alike: this is fixed wiring, to be entrusted to an electrician. Two cable glands are supplied for the cable entry. Eight C13 outlets and three heavy-duty C19 outlets complement the hardwired output.
What exactly is in the 9SX Gen2 box?
The UPS, two cable glands, two 1.2 m IEC-IEC cords, a 1.8 m USB cable, a cable-locking system, two stands for tower installation, and the complete rack-mount kit — brackets and rails included.
What is the efficiency of the 9SX Gen2 at full load?
96.7%, on an ENERGY STAR certified unit. For a double-conversion UPS, which rebuilds the current continuously, that is very high efficiency: the share lost as heat, and therefore the load on the rack's cooling, is reduced accordingly.
Can this 5 kVA unit stay in an occupied room?
It is rated at less than 40 dB at one metre, which is remarkably low for a double-conversion UPS of this power. It operates between 0 and 40 °C, up to 95% humidity non-condensing and at altitudes of up to 3,000 m.
What is the output power quality of the 9SX Gen2?
A sine wave with voltage distortion held to 1% maximum on a linear load. The output voltage can be set to 200, 208, 220, 230 or 240 V, and the input power factor exceeds 0.99: the UPS causes very little pollution on the upstream grid.
What does ABM+ charging with predictive battery life bring?
It anticipates the end of the batteries' life instead of merely noticing it: the ABM+ method can be selected as an alternative to temperature-compensated charging, and comes with an automatic battery test and deep-discharge protection.
How do you monitor the 9SX Gen2 and shut machines down cleanly?
Through a HID-compatible USB port, an RS-232 serial port, mini terminal blocks for remote on/off and remote shutdown, and two dry-contact outputs. A slot accepts an optional network card — Network-MS, ModBus-MS or Relay-MS — not included.
How much rack space does the 9SX Gen2 take up?
3U high (130 mm), 440 mm wide and 684 mm deep, weighing 43.1 kg. The depth is the point to check: it is a long chassis, and at this weight racking it is a two-person job, at the bottom of the cabinet.
What input voltage does the 9SX Gen2 tolerate?
176 to 276 V in nominal operation, extending to 100-276 V with derating. Frequency is accepted from 40 to 70 Hz: below 176 V the UPS keeps running, but no longer delivers its full power.
Is the Eaton 9SX Gen2 9SX5KIRT3UG2 new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document, for a period of 2 years. It features an internal bypass and a multilingual graphical LCD display, and is managed with the Eaton Brightlayer software suite. The datasheet covers the rest.
