Very high-power online UPS for critical infrastructure: online double-conversion, 20 kVA / 16 kW. Technology & protection: power is fully regenerated, continuously — equipment never touches the mains, with no transfer time. Maximum protection against power cuts, surges, voltage fluctuations and electrical noise. Power: 20 kVA for 16 kW of usable power — sized for server racks and industrial equipment. Runtime: approx. 14 minutes at half load (8000 W); extendable with external battery cabinets. Ports: terminal block connection (fixed wiring by an electrician); USB port, serial port and slot for an SNMP network card. Active cooling (≈ 55 dB), to be installed in a technical room. LCD display: shows load, battery level and remaining runtime at a glance — monitor the UPS without any software. Designed, for example, for data centres, server racks or industrial equipment. Remember to check how much power your equipment draws and to choose the capacity according to the runtime you need.

Frequently asked questions about this product
How long does the 9E20KI run on battery?
About 15 minutes at 50% load and 9 minutes at 75%. These times are indicative and depend on the protected equipment, its configuration, the age of the batteries and the room temperature.
How far can the 9E20KI's runtime be extended?
27 minutes at half load with one external battery cabinet and 82 minutes with four cabinets — at 75% load, runtime goes from 9 minutes to 19, then to 54. Each cabinet weighs 132 kg: check the room's floor and the floor space before ordering.
Does the 9E20KI accept a three-phase input?
Yes, the 20 kVA is available in both single-phase in/single-phase out and three-phase in/single-phase out configurations: the input can be three-phase at 380, 400 or 415 V, while the output remains single-phase. The rated input voltage is given as 400 V / 230 V depending on the connection chosen.
How does the 9E20KI connect to the electrical installation?
To a terminal block, at both input and output: the unit has no outlets. It requires fixed wiring carried out by an electrician, with a dedicated circuit sized for 20 kVA — the step that takes longest to prepare before commissioning.
Can the UPS be removed without cutting power to the racks?
Yes: besides the internal bypass that takes over in the event of a UPS fault or a downstream short circuit, a maintenance bypass as standard lets you replace the unit without interrupting the connected equipment.
Why do 20 kVA only amount to 16 kW?
The power factor is 0.8: 20 × 0.8 = 16 kW actually available. It is this value in kilowatts that must be compared with the combined consumption of the racks, the storage and any air conditioning that is also protected.
How much space and weight should be planned for in the room?
815.5 mm high, 350 wide and 706 deep, for 160 kg. The unit is mounted on castors, so it can be moved once on the floor, but its weight and that of the battery cabinets mean the floor's load-bearing capacity must be checked.
How much heat does the 9E20KI give off in the technical room?
4913 BTU per hour in online operation, for an efficiency of 93%, rising to 97% in ECO mode. This heat output feeds directly into the air-conditioning calculation: on a 20 kVA unit, it is no longer a detail.
What input voltage range does the UPS tolerate?
176 to 276 V without derating, and down to 110-276 V with power derating: below 176 V the unit keeps running, but no longer delivers its full power. The frequency is auto-selected between 50 and 60 Hz.
How many batteries does the 9E20KI hold, and are they hot-swappable?
Forty 12 V / 9 Ah batteries, sealed lead-acid, hot-swappable. They are tested automatically and protected against deep discharge; replacement is therefore carried out without interrupting the power supply to the equipment.
How can the 9E20KI be monitored and the machines shut down automatically?
A USB port and an RS-232 serial port — which cannot be used simultaneously — plus a card slot that accepts an SNMP network card, a ModBus card or a dry-contact card. The Intelligent Power software is supplied and covers virtualised environments.
Is the Eaton 9E 9E20KI new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document, for a period of 1 year. The noise level stays below 55 dB and the operating temperature ranges from 0 to 40 °C. The datasheet lists all the values for the range, in the 20 kVA column.
A maintenance bypass supplied as standard allows the UPS to be replaced without shutting down the equipment it powers. Around 15 minutes of runtime at half load (4 000 W), extendable with four battery cabinets.
•Around 15 minutes of runtime at half load (4 000 W)
•Runtime extendable with one to four external battery cabinets
•Internal bypass and maintenance bypass as standard
A free-standing tower on castors, with an LCD screen showing the load, the battery status and the voltages. Around 16 minutes of runtime at half load, extendable with up to four battery cabinets.
For a whole infrastructure: 9 minutes of runtime at half load (5000 W) and 5 minutes at 70%, the time it takes to switch over to a generator. 94% efficiency at full load and internal bypass.
All the power available in watts: 10,000 W usable, as many as the VA. Around 7 minutes of runtime at half load (5000 W) to shut down a full rack cleanly, in only 4U.
Fifteen minutes of runtime at full load, internal batteries included. Dust filter and conformal-coated boards: it is made for demanding premises, on a three-phase 400 V input tolerated from 304 to 477 V.
Network management card already fitted, with environmental monitoring: it is administered and raises alerts remotely. 9 minutes of runtime at 50% load (10 kW), extendable with battery packs.
