What comes in the 9E15KI package?
The UPS, a USB cable, a serial cable and the user manual. Power connection is made on a terminal block, as fixed wiring carried out by an electrician, with a single hardwired output. No rack-mount kit is provided: it is a standalone tower model, to be placed on the floor.
How long does it run on battery, depending on the load?
16 minutes at half load, about 9 minutes at 75% load and 6 minutes at full load (12 kW). These times are indicative: they depend on the equipment, the age of the batteries and the temperature.
Can runtime be extended without replacing the UPS?
Yes, with up to 4 9EEBM480 external battery modules, connected to the UPS's EBM connector. At half load, runtime increases from 16 minutes to 38 minutes with one module and to 117 minutes with four. Each module weighs 132 kg: floor space should be planned from the time of installation.
Are the batteries replaceable, and does everything have to be switched off to do it?
They are hot-swappable, without cutting power to the equipment. The UPS contains 40 sealed lead-acid 12 V / 7 Ah cells, with an automatic battery test and deep-discharge protection.
Is a three-phase supply required to install it?
No. The 9E15KI accepts a single-phase (1/1) or three-phase (1/3) input, at 230 V or 400 V, with an output that is always single-phase at 220/230/240 V. The same unit therefore covers both types of power supply in the room.
Is the network card for monitoring the UPS included?
No: the UPS comes with a USB port and an RS232 serial port (one or the other can be used), a dry contact and a mini terminal block for remote power-off. Ethernet/SNMP monitoring requires an optional card — Network-MS, Modbus-MS or Relay-MS — fitted in the dedicated slot.
Can it shut down virtualised servers cleanly when the battery runs low?
Yes. It works with Eaton Intelligent Power Manager and Intelligent Power Protector and has an automatic shutdown function, including under VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix Xen and Red Hat. A mini terminal block also allows remote power-off.
How much heat and noise does it give off in operation?
Expect 3,685 BTU in online mode and less than 55 dB at one metre. It belongs in a technical room kept between 0 and 40 °C, with humidity of 0 to 95% non-condensing; it remains usable up to an altitude of 3,000 m.
How do you handle a 15 kVA UPS?
It weighs 145.3 kg and measures 815.5 × 350 × 706 mm. The tower unit sits on castors that make final positioning easier: check the width of the doors and the route to the room before installation.
What is the quality of the output power?
A sine wave, regulated to 220/230/240 V ±2% with distortion below 3%: enough to power servers, network equipment and industrial or medical equipment. On the input side, it operates between 176 and 276 V with a power factor above 0.99.
How many watts are actually available from 15 kVA?
12,000 W, which means a power factor of 0.8. It is this value in watts that you should compare with the combined consumption of your racks, not the 15 kVA stated: runtime depends on it, since it drops from 16 minutes at half load to 6 minutes at full load.
Can work be carried out on the UPS without cutting power to the connected equipment?
Yes. An internal bypass maintains power if the UPS fails or a short circuit occurs downstream, and the maintenance bypass supplied as standard lets you replace the unit without cutting power to the connected equipment. The batteries, for their part, are hot-swappable.
Which certifications does this model carry?
It complies with the IEC/EN 62040-1 and IEC/EN 62040-2 standards, carries the CE marking with a TÜV CB report as well as EAC certification. Its efficiency reaches 93% in online mode and 97% in ECO mode.
